    I got a call today in regards to my dad. The number was 202-742-7308, the lady said they were looking for him to serve him with papers for check fraud. I asked for a contact name & number to give to my dad to call them back. She gave me the number of 866-260-3177 Ext:415 & name Ms. DeFazio.
    How they got my cell number considering my Dad lives in another state & my name & number on none of his paperwork except in medical records. I asked her to confirm who she was looking for, because she obviously was not looking for my dad. (A man that is a retired US Marshal & bounty hunter!!) The lady couldn't pronounce his name properly & then proceeded to tell me "he's in a lot of trouble & this is no joke"
    She couldn't tell me how she got my number & had NO other contact info for him, including not even knowing what state he lives in. I'm sorry, but if you have evidence for check fraud, wouldn't that said check have an address on it? I don't know who these people are & I don't know who to contact.

    New Variation on Telephone Collection Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    02/21/12—The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) continues to receive complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. As previously reported in December 2010, the typical payday loan scam involves a caller who claims the victim is delinquent on a payday loan and must make payment to avoid legal consequences.

    Callers pose as representatives of the FBI, “Federal Legislative Department,” various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies and claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, or other Internet check-cashing services. The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment in attempts to obtain payment. The callers refuse to provide information regarding the alleged payday loan or any documentation and become verbally abusive when questioned.

    The IC3 has observed variations of this scam in which the caller tells the victim that there are outstanding warrants for the victim’s arrest. The caller claims that the basis of the warrants is non-payment of the underlying loan and/or hacking. If it’s the latter, the caller tells the victim that he or she is wanted for hacking into a business’ computer system to steal customer information. The caller will then demand payment via debit/credit card; in other cases, the caller further instructs victims to obtain a prepaid card to cover the payment.

    The high-pressure collection tactics used by the fraudsters have also evolved. In one recent complaint, a person posed as a process server and appeared at the victim’s job. In another instance, a phony process server came to a victim’s home. In both cases, after claiming to be serving a court summons, the alleged process server said the victim could avoid going to court if he or she provided a debit card number for repayment of the loan.

    If you are contacted by someone who is trying to collect a debt that you do not owe, you should:

    Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger;
    Contact your bank(s) and credit card companies;
    Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file;
    If you have received a legitimate loan and want to verify that you do not have any outstanding obligation, contact the loan company directly;
    File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.

    I was called from this place on Monday saying I had a payday loan from 2009 and I wrote a check with a closed bank account. Considering I haven't used banks since around 2000, I dont see how that is possible. He insisted that I owed $1775 by 2 pm that day or I would be arrested for felony fraud. I didn't pay it, as I'm quite coherant and know it wasn't me...even if it was my ss # and my address from 2002 until 2010. They called my sisters phone to get to me. I told them I would need something in writing that would give me a street address and phone number to where they are located and whoever the loan was from and the bank, etc. The rude guy told me "that would be no". So I said "ok, then this would be filing with the attorney general, goodbye" and I hung up. They have let me alone since and still no sherriff knocking at my door.

    Consumer Alert!

    Consumers are receiving calls from United Check Processing accusing them of defaulting on payday loans. United Check Processing threatens that if consumers do not pay immediately via wire transfer or by providing bank account or credit card numbers, he or she will be arrested. The debt collector may have the victim’s Social Security, old bank account numbers or driver’s license numbers as well as home addresses, employer information and even the names of personal friends and professional references.

    United Check Processing appears not to be a legitimate debt collection company. BBB is unable to locate the persons responsible for the phony debt collection calls. According to the United States Postal Service, the address the company provides is an invalid address. Despite requests, the company refuses to provide documentation to substantiate the debt.

    BBB offers the following advice to consumers if they receive a suspicious telephone call about an outstanding debt:

    Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.

    Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.

    File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws.

    Does anyone actually know who these clowns are? They have been calling me for weeks. A couple of weeks ago I actually answered and shouted at them that they have broken the law by calling my number because it is on the "do not call list".
    I told them that if they ever called again, I would sue them for being in violation of the Telephone Consumer's Protection Act of 1991. Under that law, if someone calls you and you tell them not to call again, and they do, they owe you $500 plus court costs for every phone call. And, generally, you can get treble damages. So I told them if you call again, I will sue for $1500 plus court costs for every phone call. "You got that MotherF*****?" Well, since then, they have called twice. So, I told her, today, now you owe me $3000 plus court costs. "Call again, MotherF***** and you will owe me another $1500".

    I have filed these suits before, and I have never lost, although I always filed for junk faxes in the past, since they are easier to prove. But, I have a printing caller id machine, so I have a record. What I need, now, is a company and address and point of contact so that I can serve them. Does anyone know? For sure?
