Received a call but no one answers and hear a beep in the background.

I called it back and it was a recording saying it was "donor services" a non profit charity organization.

This New York call came to Kansas at 19:37 hours (illegal) on 6-22-09. Call not answered and no message left. The caller ID said: "Mthers Ag Dr Dr". I think we could probably make the leap of faith that this is Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Received a call from 516-277-8421, called ID showed Animal League.  Did not leave a message.

Keep getting calls from this number.  If you answer, there is no one at the other end, so I hang up.  If I don't answer, they don't leave a message.  Very annoying.  I work nights, and they always call when I am sleeping.

Just got a call from "GLEN HEAD  NY". It is a solicitor for the North Shore Animal League. They pretended that I have supported them in the past. I pretended to be the owner of a taxidermy store and asked to buy all their "extra dog & cats" (not true, btw).

You can't stop these paid solicitors from calling you, yelling at them won't help, & the "do-not-call list" is a JOKE, so the best you can do is try and waste as much as their time as possible on the phone. I often offer to "put them on hold and go get my credit card" ... they usually stay on hold for about 10 minutes before they give up.

I don't answer unless I know who's calling, so when Glen Head, NY came up I didn't answer. Live on the West Coast & don't know anyone there. If, as one caller stated, its North Shore Animal League, they are a good animal support group. However, I don't do phone donations since you don't really know who's calling & no sense exposing yr CC info. Not nice "playing" w/them, they do good things. Having caller ID is great, I don't waste my time or theirs answering if I don't want to deal w/whomever. I mail my donations to the charities / rescue groups of my choice.

I have donated to North Shore Animal League in the past.  However, I do not like phone solicitations.  They spend way too much money trying to get money.  Wasteful!!!  ASPCA is the same way.  Always sending crap I don't want/need.  I will not donate to charities that waste my money like this.  Goodbye, NSAL!

Keep receiving calls from ANIMAL LEAGUE, but they never leave a message, nor is there anyone there when I answer the phone.  I have donated with North Shore Animal League in the past; I'm thinking it's probably them.

I have been getting phone calls from 516-277-8421 every day now for almost a month.
Sometimes it comes up Glen Head, NY & sometimes it comes up as Animal League.
No one seems to be on the other end & it is becoming very annoying. Wish the calls would stop.

I looked North American Animal League up on Charity Navigator which is a non profit Charity Evaluator. They didn't have a very good write up. They aren't very transparent. They won't publish how much money is spent on the animals and how much goes in their pockets. Doesn't sound very trusting to me. I used to send them donations every month. Not anymore.

Actually, the DNC list does NOT prevent non-profit organizations from calling you.  They're exempt.

Received a call from this number at 8:50 pm.  Even for a non-profit, that's cutting it close to the 9pm deadline imposed by the FCC.  Furthermore, if it is the North Shore Animal League, I've told them previously I am not interested in donating but they still continue calling, as if hoping I might sustain a brain injury and forget I told them I'm not interested or they think they can wear me down.  This time, because I didn't recognize the number, I didn't say anything when I picked up the phone and the call quickly disconnected.  (I also use this tactic for calls I know will have a prerecorded message, like that eternally annoying Google placement scam. When the system doesn't hear anyone on the other end, it usually hangs up instead of playing its stupid message.  It doesn't stop them from calling again and again - they're going to do that anyway - but it spares me from having to listen to their nonsense.)
I have 'blacklisted' numbers from the North Shore Animal League (or whatever it's called) but they seem to keep calling from new numbers, which puts them in the spam column in my book.

This is NOT North Shore Animal League...they do not call to solicit donations...I asked when we were there to adopt our puppy....we ignore any call from any unknown number... and any charity that we decide to make a donation to is done by us calling them! That's the only way you can be sure who you are dealing with.

These idiots called me yet again tonight at 1805 hrs.  They let it ring about three times and disconnected before I could answer.  As for the claim that the North Shore Animal League does not make calls to solicit donations, I can tell you from personal experience that that is not entirely true.  THEY may not make the calls themselves but they obviously hire a company to do it for them because I have taken calls from people explicitly calling on their behalf for the purpose of soliciting a donation from me.  Whether this particular number is the North Shore or North American or whatever Animal League or Mothers Against Drunk Driving or whomever, this is obviously a company nonprofits hire to raise money for them.  This number and various ones from the 631 area code (also allegedly calling on behalf of an animal charity) have been calling me several times a week for about a month now.  The only way I donate now is anonymously, and NEVER by phone solicitation.  I learned my lesson long ago:  You donate to one group and they sell your info off to various other groups, so everyone's suddenly holding out their hand to you for money on the premise that, if you gave to one, you'll give to others.  Psychologically sound, except when someone gets miffed about being pegged as a sucker.

Third call from "Animal League" this week. Others are 631 numbers. Am forwarding to a fax machine but I suspect they have a hundred more from auto-dialers.

I just received my first call from 516-277-8421. The I.D. said Animal League. They did not leave a message. I don't think this is North Shore Animal League, as I've donated to them for many years and have not once gotten a call from them. Think it's someone else using a similar name, maybe on purpose. I never donate to anyone over the phone. Never know for sure who's on the other end.

This number calls a few times a day, every single day, including weekends.  I'm on the do not call list and have been for years.  This is a violation of my rights.

i also get calls late at night...round 9:30 or so...always says anonymous
