One on my phone today.  Call display ``New York``.  No message.

Just screened a call from this # I am in Vancouver Island.

We got three phone calls from this number today. We never answered the call. However, when they called the third time at 8 in the evening, I called the number back within 10 minutes. I got a recorded message saying that this was the number for WCA Subscriber Services and that our phone number was not recognized as belonging to a subscriber. However, the automated service allowed me to press "1" to enter a number to be "removed from the subscriber database". I couldn't tell at that point if the "subscriber database" is a database of phone numbers of CURRENT subscribers (in which case our number would NOT be there and my effort would be useless) or if the "subscriber database" is a database of phone numbers they call in an effort to get NEW subscribers (in which case our number WOULD be there and my effort might have an effect). I pressed "1", entered our number, heard an automated voice read it back to me, and then heard a message saying that it would take 7 business days to have that number (i.e. our phone number) removed from their subscriber database. That suggests to me that the "subscriber database" truly is a database of numbers they call to get solicit for subscribers, not a database of current subscriber phone numbers. In the end, I hope my interpretation is correct, that they follow what I hope are the laws of the land and the laws of common decency, that they accept my request to be left along, and that we don't get any more calls from them.

Press what to do what?? Go where and fill in what form??? Nah -- rather than prove myself to be a viable (and therefore sellable) number, I'd rather let them go on wasting their time. (Yeh, I know it's just a computer and computers don't care.)
