- TheBeardedOneI received a one time voicemail asking for myself or my wife & to hang up if not the previous stated persons. This occurred in November...I listened to it January of this year. Oops no ties to Lansing MI as it stated so low priority status it received. Honestly the woman sounded kinda of drunk or less than brilliant with reading queues. It just seemed sketchy so I googled the number & was met with more skepticism from others than who the party is. They seem semi legitimate with Spectrum Health but it ends there . I don't owe spectrum I don't owe anyone to speak of to be candid . I receive a bill I pay it or make arrangements , period. I think its nonsense . The websites of theirs seem pretty low budget lets say to be nice . Just for comfort I'm real curios how & why they dialed my cell & not landline . Crooks or no?

- Bongo BobDid not recognize the number, so I didn't answer. The call went to the answering machine, but they didn't leave a message. Everybody else in this forum says they're (semi) legitimate debt collectors. I have absolutely no debt and haven't for 20 years. So, they're either scammy, or they're looking for somebody else with a similar name. I don't know if they're legitimate or not, but I sure wouldn't be giving them any information, or confirming any they already have. Be careful.

- dog replies to Cati once knew a guy who went to get a loan. he was unaware of a few bills that he missed after moving a couple of times . he said he wishes the debt collection agency would have been more pro active in reaching him . he now has to pay higher interest rate on his car . are you sure you did not over look a bill i would call them back .if they are calling the wrong # i don't see why they would continue to call if they knew they had the wrong # .
- kat replies to CatI used to collect debts - worst job ever!!! Can call several times a day as long as a message is not left - but some collection agencies abuse this practice.
- Michelle| 1 replyThis number called and identified themselves as Molly. Fake name, I'm sure. She was super sweet asking for me, but when I wouldn't confirm my birthday, she got the [***] tone. I began to have fun with it because I knew I was frustrating her. She wouldn't tell me what company she was with, or what the call was about. She just said she had important confidential information and I would have to confirm my birth date to find out. I kept saying no. She kept threatening to disconnect the call. Lol Not a threat to me, loser. I'm glad I frustrated you to the point of hanging up on me. Hahaha!!!! I'm not sure if she thought she sounded authoritative, but to me, she sounded like a whiney, impatient [***]. Did you really think you could bully me into giving you personal information when you won't even tell me who the fk you are? Ha!

- SteveThey used a personal name displayed with their number. Those tricks to motivate call back are used by collectors

- JamieCalled my work line and asked for "Jamie Smith". I told her she had the wrong number because there was no Jamie Smith here. Then she asked for the HR Department. This is a small office - I told her we really don't have an HR department and asked what this was in reference to. She said she needed to verify employment. I told her again that person doesn't work here. After several times asking for the HR dept she finally hung up on me. :) Caller ID: MRN

- Tony| 1 replyWhy do people still pick up the phone if they don't know who is calling?
- Slim replies to Tony"Conditioned Response". Google "Pavlov's Dogs"
- Ken replies to MichelleJust for your knowledge: third party debt collectors CANNOT release any information about the debt until they have verified you are the right person. You wouldn't want them to tell some complete stranger this information. Your DOB alone is not going to get anyone anywhere. The fact that you purposely frustrated someone and think that's cute is disgusting. No one likes these calls however; there is a reason that they are calling you. This may or may not be your debt (sounds like it probably is) but, if it's not then you may want to tell them that to so they can stop calling you.
Shameful! - JunieCalled at 3:01 pm eastern time. Caller asked for ???? She mangled the first name. Wasn't me. Started with a B. Told her no one here by that name. I couldn't figure out the name she asked for. CID said MRN. She said thank you and we hung up. Debt collectors I think.

- BigA replies to SumerIt is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
