Got a call from Rene Tyson at 561-962-2987.  She stated she was a process server for "the county" but didn't say which one. Just that she had documents and a summons to serve me.  She said the problem was she only had my work address and she would rather serve me at home.  So I needed to call the issuing attorney,  Michael Thompson at 843-633-1837, and give him my home address.  His phone number was for a completely different state.  He would then fax her the information and she would be out to serve me between 4:00 and 6:00 that evening. If she didn't receive the fax the summons would be marked as undeliverable and a bench warrant would be issued against me.  Two calls were made by this woman to two different numbers, neither of which belong to me but to family members of mine.  Both were lefts as voicemail on their phones.  They called me with the information.  I'm not sure what legitimate attorney or even debt collector would be ready to file papers on someone and not be able to perform a basic credit search to find their correct home address.  So this stinks of a scam to me.  As does the part about calling this Michael Thompson who will then turn around and fax her.  She called from one state, Florida according to the area code.  Michael Thompson is in another state, South Carolina if his area code is believable, and I live in yet a third state, thousands of miles away from either.  Unfortunately, I've been the recipient of similar calls after being the victim of identity theft.  However, this one was much more threatening.   Both numbers are VoIP numbers.  VoIP is commonly used in debt collection scams.  And actually, every one of these scamming calls I've received since the ID theft have been on VoIP numbers.

Just wanted to list some information for anyone else that may search these numbers.  It would appear they're newer since there's not much out there about them.

Called the number back after blocking my phone number. It had a message stating the cellular phone you have dialed is not in service.

I got a call from this number today. No message left and I will not be calling it back either. If they call me again I will answer and post another update as to what I am informed of.

I got a call stating that they had some questions on my account... I don't have an account with them.  The called ID showed it as Boca Raton FL

An actual Process Server is not going to have any conversation with you about any debt you owe, nor will they demand payment from you. If something like this happens, immediately call local law enforcement and make a full report including as much descriptive information as you can give them of the person impersonating a court officer.

Several threatening calls stating that they are going to come to my residence (and haven't) and my place of employment (and haven't) to serve me papers and summons for my arrest. They have called ex spouses and friends whom I no longer have any association with, so I know this to be a scam trying to collect on an old debt that is about to come off my credit report; merely because I haven't listed these folks on a reference in years!! I spoke to my attorney and he said to ignore these calls and report them to the attorney general for harassment. It is a debt collector who bought the debt and is now trying to capitalize on the debt any means necessary to have it paid since they bought the debt and that any server processor would not be calling references or calling you...they would be merely serving you the papers (in which is true because I have been served at my residence and employment). If you acknowledge the debt than they can put it back on your credit report for another 7-10 years.
