I keep getting calls from this number.  I do not answer any number that I do not recognize, and now, I am glad I don't after reading the above calls.  I figured it was a scam and it looks as if I was right!  Thanks to all of the callers for the information.

I have posted before, most likly a scam company calling to make some kind of sales. Here is what I think we should do, find the person or persons and beat the [***] OUT OF THEM!!!!!!!!

I. too, get these same calls. It's gotta be an auto dailer, though. Every time it's called me, I'm never there and my machine picks it up. The question is obviously a recording, because after the question is posed it disconnects a couple of seconds later. There's never a live person on the other end. Like others in this thread, the caller ID shows the number and "Wireless Caller".

One of our local TV stations (in Oklahoma City) did a story about someone here who stayed on the line and continued answering the questions. When their phone bill came in, it had charges that added up to a couple of hundred dollars on it for that number. The TV station, on behalf of the scammed person, got in touch with the phone company about the issue. Phone company was very little help, stating the person should have hung up, despite the fact the person had no idea they were being scammed, and that the charges were going through the phone company to the caller (in other words the caller gets the money). And because of phone company policy, they would not pursue the company making the calls because, technically, they hadn't done anything illegal.

The whole thing stinks. At least we know it comes from somewhere in the state of Virginia.

The scam you seem to be referring to involves third party phone billing.  Yes, people should check their phone records very carefully in any case.  Here is a link ...

These calls have been going on from many numbers for months and nobody has reported anything yet.

We don't know at all they are in Virginia, same calls were coming from Idaho and some of us have had calls asking the same questions from both numbers.  Here is a thread to the Idaho number ...

They are forging their caller ID, you can Google caller id forging and read all about that.

The reason for the questions and calls is most likely to see if they have a "live one" that will respond to their calls.  If you respond in any manner one is sure to get more calls.

Surveys, even stupid ones, are not forbidden by Don't Call laws.  There is nothing that can be done.  Best bet is to stop responding as others have suggested.  Eventually they don't waste any more time calling people who don't respond.

This number has called 3 times in the last two days, unfortunately I haven't been near the phone and by the time I get there they hang up

Whoever, keeps calling me to..they have called me twice this week 9/6-12/2010 and i am highly annoyed!!!

Had a call from this number at 8:51 PM on 09/12/10, asking if I had a small dog.  I hung up.

Surveys that are lied about being surveys can certain be reported to the DNC list.

Sorry, I wish I could stop it also.   But what good does it do reporting a forged caller ID number to the Gov?   Both the actual number and the wireless caller tag are forged.
When you report you give them a contact number.  But even in the rare case they would contact you they will back off once they find out it was a survey.  All it does is to put invalid data into the system.

Somehow I knew it.  TeaParty yahoos.  I don't disagree with many of their points, but if these are the type of end-justifies-the-means and look-for-the-loophole ideas floating around in the minds of these Young Republicans get ready for another Watergate in the next decade or two.

I can't speak for other phone companies, but I have Comcast, and they confirmed that NO OUTSIDE COMPANY can add charges to my phone bill. As I posted before, even if a charge COULD be added, it would take more than a recorded "Yes" to authorize the charge.

No, they can't. A recorded "yes" does not obligate anyone to anything. How could the company prove that the voice is yours? You would have to provide additional verifying information.

These guys called me daily for weeks, also with their other number: 208-758-0218, and from unlisted numbers that showed up on the ID as Couer De Alen or P3ople Rspnz. I never answered, and as soon as the voicemail came on, the caller slammed the phone down. Last week I reported this number to the FTC and also gave them the additional numbers/ID names. Haven't received calls from any of these numbers for a a week now; I think reporting them to the FTC did the trick! Go to www.ftc.gov and fill out the on-line complaint form.

They cannot leav a message, as I've turned off my answering machine

Got the same "small dog question" Sept 1, 9, 10. Tried to call back from a different phone and got no answer.
