This number has called me several times in the last week claiming that I owe over $60 in unpaid dr. bills which I know I paid over 8 months ago. The caller claimed that the hospital bill was paid but not the physicians bill. It seemed sketchy showing up so long after the bill was paid with no other notification. I'm unsure as to weather it's legit or not! anyone know anything?

After a period of time without payment the hospital will sell the debt for a portion of the amount due. This debt collection agency will then contact you to get you to pay. After three to six months of no payment, they will sell the debt to another agency for a portion of what they paid the hospital for it. The second debt collector will contact you, if you still don't pay, they will sell the debt to yet another agency. This will continue for a while, the debt gets sold and transferred several times over. If thedebt isn't real high, you will probably not get sued.
