I was wondering if this is a valid company.  They called me about a month ago, and kept telling me that I have to pay a hospital bill for $5000. They are right about the hospital, but claimed that I was unisured, and basically expected me to pay the whole $5000.  This is confusing because my dad has an insurance type that covers students, and I AM in college now! So with that...I have NO money.  They wanted to make a payment plan, but I only have $163.00. My dad's insurance says that I don't have to pay for it, and now they keep harassing me with courts fee's and legal action.  Please, what am I supposed to do???

I got a call from this guy and he would not let up. He kept coming back at me every time I tried to tell him why I had not paid the two bills he was calling about. I don't deny owing the money but when you don't have any extra what are you suppose to do? But this guy would have nothing to do with what I said. I guess that will teach me to answer my cell phone at work. By the way how did he get my cell phone number in the first place?

Next time tell him not to call your cell. If he keeps calling it u can go after the business for harassment. Collection laws are they cannot call your cell without your permission, and u can tell them to stop calling the cell and they HAVE to stop. Hope this helps

This number comes up on my caller ID as Avera McKennan but it is a collection agency called AMI-Account Management Inc (from what I have read from other sites).  They never leave a message.  Not sure why they are calling but am confused on why they are portraying themselves as a hospital or doctor when they are collections?  Is this legal??

    Irritated single mother!!

I have continuously received phone calls from this number on a daily basis starting about two weeks ago. Sometimes a message will be left and sometimes not. In the messages that are left they never state who they are or why they are calling but they request to talk to either me or my boyfriend. They don't need to talk to my boyfriend! He and I don't have obligations together because we are not married! So, I finally contacted this number back today and the lady "Tammy" was very rude. She demanded that I needed to pay a debt that is owed and would not listen to my request to remove my private cell phone number from their caller list. She specifically stated that in order to stop receiving phone calls I would have to pay the amount they said was due. I was trying to talk with her and she would only talk over me. She even put words in my mouth stating that I told her she would go to jail if they continued to call my phone. I just told her thank you and hung up on her. This is not right. This company regardless of what business they are in cannot bully someone just because they say they can. I am a single mother of three and everyone knows that money is tight right now. These people need to understand and have more compassion. Bullying someone to pay something they cannot afford does not do anyone any good! I hope this company will get the hint really soon! There is a right way and a wrong way to do business and they are very much doing business the wrong way!!!! Get the hint 605-322-4622!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This number IS Accounts Management Inc. that collects debts for the ENTIRE AVERA health care system. It doesn't matter which one of their hospitals or clinics that you may or may NOT have been to,AMI will call and harass you. I know a LOT of people that they harass. They keep calling me looking for somebody that I don't even know. I keep telling them that I've only had my new phone and number for about 2 weeks, but they won't stop. It's maddening! I'll have to get my number changed just to make them go away.

Serious - I am going to say what other people are thinking.  STOP playing the single mom card.  It is lame.  Say something like hey I made some bad choices in the past, became involved with the wrong person and I am in a tight spot.  Everyone has bills STOP blaming them on your kids - stand up and clean up what you created

I keep getting calls from this number.  I now refuse to answer the phone.  My answering system picks it up.  They never leave a message.  I love caller ID on phones.

    Disgruntled consumer
This number, which shows up on my caller ID as Accounts Management was introduced to my by our local hospital as the company which is handling their accounts receivable for them, allowing them to save money by not having their own A/R management position. (Yeah, right!) They have not been happy with our payment schedule, but have accepted the smaller payments each month when we mail them, anyway. Now they are calling my place of employment leaving "please call me" messages with an 888-844-0880 call back number, using our foster daughter's name, (mis-spelled) and no details.

They also seem to be using one of those auto dialers that call 3-5 numbers at once and hangs up on the ones who do not answer first. I assume this because I have stopped answering their calls, but they ring sometimes only once, and others as many as six time before they stop, without ever leaving a voicemail.

I don't think that the person was trying to play the single mother card.  She was simply stating that she has children and money is tight and there may not be the extra money to pay a hospital for a bill.  We all know that hospitals overcharge anyway.  I don't think that it is your place to reprimand someone else and assume that they made bad decisions in the past.  You do not know the woman that left that message and you do not know why she is a single mother.  What if her husband died?  What if the father of her children left her for another woman?  I think that you are very out of line coming to a forum like this and attacking the people that post here.  Get a life and find something else to do this a forum to report about harassing phone calls not for random people to come and post messages about things that they know nothing about.

I had been paying on a bill that was actually 2 bills that the hospital decided on their own to combine into one bill. Over half of it is paid but I get harassed by a so called collection agency AMI. Saying that one bill I had been paying fine on but I hadn't made any payment on my other bill. 1. I didn't ask for the 2 bills to be combined. 2. Why weren't the payments placed towards each when there was no indication on their part that it was more than one bill. Anyways I was pretty broke at the time but did offer to have it paid in full in 3-4 months. I was told that was unacceptable and that I had to go to my bank and get a loan to pay it in full. To make a long story short they try to make AMI look like a seperate company than Avera, but it is part of the Avera group of companies. I went to my local hospital were the services were rendered and offered to pay cash what I could afford at the time. They called AMI and wanted me to talk to them I told them I have nothing to say to AMI. Either they could take my cash payment or not. They had no choice but to accept the cash otherwise they would have denied payment of legal currency for a debt owed to them and I wouldn't owe them a cent after that. So each month I go in and make a cash payment. They should have worked with me and accepted to be paid in full in 3-4 months. If they had, they would have been paid off 2 years ago.

    Sam,

She is saying she can't afford to pay the bill and asking why the company feels they need to harass her. She never once blames her kids for creating the bill. She simply states the fact that she is a single mother of 3 struggling to keep food on the table. How do you know the baby daddy(s) aren't deadbeats hiding from his/their responsibility?

You obviously have a chip on shoulder for women who live up to their responsibilities and raise their kids. You also have no idea if the dad's are living up to their responsibilities. How do you know the collection agency isn't harrassing her for the dad's portion of the bill?

Judge not lest ye be judged!

The Sam listed above is probably working for AMI and is a debt collector.  Who else would say such stupid things?  I too have received calls with no message left.  And was told by Avera that since I lost my insurance I can't see a doctor without paying upfront, in effect refusing medical treatment.  I have paid off my medical bills, and got charged the full amount, with interest and fees, and every payment they add on "transaction fees"on top of everything else!  The Avera group of companies are very greedy and totally heartless!
