Caller identified themselves as CRA representative with name that did not match accent. Threatened pending federal charges if no response call was placed to a number given in call.

Same day same woman called twice in one day. I called back. First it was busy, then it rang and hung up. Is this an actual scam? Does anyone know?

Most likely it is a scam.  No legitimate law enforcement agency cold calls you in advance and tells you you've committed a crime and you are going to be arrested.  Calls most likely originate in India and Pakistan and callers pretend to be with the federal taxing agency.  In the US it's IRS.  In Canada it's CRS, I'm pretty sure.  Nobody in the US is arrested for ordinary tax disputes and I doubt if anyone in Canada is arrested for tax disputes.  Go check with your local police .  They will tell you this is a scam.   Do not return the calls.  Block them.  We get those calls here in California  at least twice a month.

Same as Ann - 3 Federal charges against me. Left two different messages. since there is no way that there would be Federal charges against me this will be a scam.

Got exactly the same message, didn't get the name but CRA with 3 pending federal charges against me and if I don't call her back they will start legal proceedings...

Several calls in the last few weeks from this number, call display said "Ottawa, ON", so we didn't answer.  We don't know anybody in Ottawa.  Last week they left a message on our machine. It was a woman saying that there were 3 Federal charges against me. Who?  Me or my wife? No names were mentioned. She said she was an agent of the CRA and to call back immediately or charges will be filed. For what? No explanation. She said they had our IP address and were monitoring us. Scary! We ignored it but for fun called back and just got a busy signal or it rang and rang, no answer.  Or dead air.  Or a hang up.  Pretty sure it's a scam.  And from 613-366-5123. We blocked it.

Female east Indian accent left voicemail saying she has 3 pending federal charges against me and we should  call right away to avoid further action.  Does not sound legit to me and won't be calling back

I received the same message today as well. Female indian accent saying I have 3 federal charges against me from the CRA, and if I do not call back they will take further action. I looked up the phone number, and all these scam threads came up for that number. I will not be calling them back.

Got the exact same call this is a business # they called so I knew immediately that it was a scam.  Same drill CRA and federal charges and call back immediately.  I called back thought I might be able to have a bit of fun but no such luck same thing ring and then just hang up dead air...too bad

A message was left on my answering machine today. It was a female with a heavy East Indian accent and a very poor phone connection. She claimed she was an officer with the Canadian Revenue Agency and there were serious problems pending. She claimed my name and identity were under investigation and gave me a limited amount of time to return her call or charges would be laid. At no time was my name mentioned and needless to say, I did not return the call as I'm sure it was a scam!

Almost daily calls,woman with Caribbean accent.call her back and if she did not get a return call would start legal proceedings. Where the heck are our Police and Government people at some level.Do they not get these reports and send someone to investigate?.

Got same call today - she left a cut off message. Nearly gave me confused heart failure. Literally. Still have the mssg. Can nothing be done?

Phony call, same as all the rest of you. A different phony call display number too. Country code is from Australia. It's an outbound call centre. Someone went to a lot of trouble.

Received this a call from this number this morning about Federal charges.  If I do not call them back they will proceed with the federal charges.  This is a load of crap...lol

I got this call and i called Peel Region Police, they told me they got more than 25 calls.  they told me to report to Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (Run by RCMP) the number is 1 888-495-8501. web-site  www.antifraudcentre.ca

I am pretty sure the accent is Indian/Pakistani, lady stating If I don't call her back, legal proceeding will be started against me. (no identification or reference was given) I was a little on edge, but calmed down once I checked here. Its a scam, but what's the motive what are they trying to achieve. I guess just trying to scare people.(I guess some people have a lot of spare time on their hands and don't know what to do with it) Thanks guys for posting your experience. will report to authorities as per Nicks post.
