They called and said they were with Eco Energy Services and would be on my street checking to see if homeowners are eligible for a rebate.  The caller sounded Mexican.  He said the visit would only take about 20 minutes.  I was on my PC at the time of the call. When I asked him for their website so I could check them out, he gave me a website that didn't exist. (www.ehs.com). When I told him that I wasn't interested as the website he gave me didn't exist, he just said "bye" and hung up. I'm so sick and tired of these types of scammers calling!

I wasn't sure if they were legit or not until I checked out this site. While talking to the guy though, alarm bells went off in my head that it was a scam. I wouldn't normally have answered the phone. But there was a strong probability that someone would call today, and the person called when I was just out of the shower (why, why why always during the shower or when you're baking bread???), so I was a bit flustered by the time I got to the phone.

Anyway, one important thing to know: Person who called wanted to know if the property was registered in my name. I said no, which meant I was renting. He hung up soon after, sounding pretty pleased about getting that piece of information.

I'll wait a few days to see if anyone actually comes to bother us with "inspections". One would think that if we wanted rebates, we'd ask for it, and not have dubious inspectors coming around like they were government or something.

When telephone rang and I did not recognize the number I answered in my husband's company greeting.  The scammer wanted to talk to him and I said he was not available and wanted to talk to his wife and I said she does not work here.  He hung up the phone.  Got this number on my radar and will not answer anymore.

Dead air when I answered. Nobody to be rude to.

Canada411 reports that the number belongs to a telecom company in Brockville, Ont. called Iristel, so not only does Eco Energy sound like a bunch of scammers (I didn't answer; only know what I've read here), but they're using a scammed number as well.  Double crooks!

We would like to address some of the comments on here;

1. Our web site is: http://ecoenergyhs.ca
2. We service all over Ontario.
2. We are authorized contractors with the Ontario Power Authority (now IESO), to perform these energy assessments/upgrades.
3. If you currently have older equipment, you might qualify for certain government rebates. We are there to provide you with information as to what these rebates are.

There is no "scam" here. Again, we are authorized contractors with the OPA.

If that was the case we apologize as you should not have received the phone call. If you instructed that to the person you were speaking with they are to put you on the DNC list immediately.

Some guy claiming to be calling on behalf of "Eco Energy Services".  Immediately told him that I was not interested, that he should take my name off of "the list".

If you are not a Scam then why do you call people on the National Do Not Call List? Why do your scammers give false names when they call? Why do your scammers hang up the phone when the victim asks them for the your company phone number?

Your scammers hang up because they know that they have called a person on the Do Not Call List and they know that they are doing something wrong. A legitimate company would follow CRTC guidelines and give the victim the company full name, phone number and company address. But your scammers just hang up the phone rather than follow the CRTC guidelines.

I hope that "Eco Engergy Home Services" people do show up at my door tomorrow, that would be added proof to give to the CRTC to verify exactly which company is violating the Do Not Call List. I will be talking to neighbours tonight to make sure that even if these scammers don't come to my door I will get the details from one of them.

I know for a fact that the CRTC has fined at least one company that has called me. A person from the CRTC called me to verify the details in my complaint and said that they were going after the company. About three months later a news release came out that the company they called about had been heavily fined. I hope the CRTC does the same to you.

I am also on the dnc list. If this is legit, you really need to train your employees as the guy who called here was unprofessional and hung up on my husband.
