Caller says they are from the CRA and that I need to call them right away because someone has filed a claim against my name. If I do not return the call my SIN will be red flagged forever. The callers name was left as Patrick Cooper. His accent was East Indian. This is a scam.

They called to say a claim has been made against my husband .I called back and got a busy number. Again the caller had an east indian accent. So I blocked that number and will have to block another one sooner than later.

Says he (Patrick Cooper) is calling from Revenue Canada, that you owe money and are in trouble. Sounds very urgent and insistent. Phone number originates from Ontario, but name and address are blocked. Scam! Scam! Scam!

Have been receiving threatening call from this # 613 704 1474 + This Fraudulant Gent Who CAN NOT EVEN SPEAK PROPER Understandable English Wants People To Give Personnal Information over the phone !

same number but caller said he was Richard Harper yesterday, called at 8 am, threatened me over and over that I would b arrested by 330 by the RCMP, my husband called them back and told them where to go, then today same number, same East Indian nationality but different guy who did not shut up, does not stop stopping, but kept threatening me too. Called MTS, they r aware and the girl's own gramma had call. Monday calling CRTC...today I am angry.

I had 4 messages claimed to be Patrick Cooper from CRA telling me that I am being sued and failure to respond would result in my SIN being red flagged forever and has accent that makes me doubt his name is Cooper. Too bad that he can't put this effort into something useful like getting a job. Just another reason to cancel my land line when MTS allows crap like this.

my elderly mother also received the same call from Patrick Cooper (claiming to be from CRA), and if she didnt return the call from 613-704-1474, her SIN would be flagged.    Apparently there is a serious law suit filed and time was sensitive otherwise mother would face hard and unwanted legal consequences.

Just got a call from 613-704-1474 that I owe CRA over $2900 for not filing proper income tax and that if I don't pay, I will be arrested.  He says my SIN no. will be flagged for the rest of my life.  He says he is Officer Richard Harper, badge no. 118365, calling from Ottawa. I guess John Cooper sent some papers to me Dec 2014, but I wasn't around to sign for them and now I am being sued.   He insisted I go to my bank and pay them from there.  I told him I would go to Revenue Canada tomorrow and deal with this.  He said no, had to be dealt with now and if not I will be arrested.  He finally got mad and hung up on me, because I said, I want to see the paper work on my case before I do anything.  Another scam.

I have received several calls with a message similar to those above.  Revenue Canada doesn't do business that way.  I may not be a big fan of the tax department but they manage their affairs much better than these clowns would like you to think.  Definitely a scam and should be reported then ignored!  Address is in Brampton, Ontario.

Got exactly a very similar message by a friend today. Here are a few important phone numbers: Canadian anti fraud centre 1-888-495-8501 and CRA 1 800 959 8281. If there are any queries from CRA it will be in the form of a letter - not a phone call. Call and check if your account has been compromised.
