Received a message this morning, Friday,  Aug. 28th, at 8h55.    They said a name (can't remember what) and then asked to call back immediately... I hung up before listening to the rest of the message.

Message said it was the CRA calling and to call back immediately to avoid them taking legal action against me.

Thank you Jennifer.  I just got another call same message but this time the last digit was a 5 instead of a 4.   Pretty unsettling.   Did you get the same message to ?

I got the same message.  I can't imagine any reputable company having an automated threat like this.  I'm not going to call back.

"reputable company"?  I would call "revenue canada" (aka "the tax department"), if it really was them, a "reputable company", more or less. but this isn't for real.

this is a bunch of cheap, lying hustlers, trying to rip people off.  and we all know how much the government hates competition...

never mind what the callerid says, it's fake.  they're a bunch of low-life scum using a 613 area code to pretend they're in "ottawa", but they are anything but the real item.

do you think the real tax department would ask you for money, just to "drop the whole thing"?  and payable through your nearest western union?!

My aunt received a call from these low lifes.  She's in her eighties and has her wits about her.  I wonder how many people  worry themselves about these threats.  Two days before she had a call from someone using her phone number as their caller ID.  She said, "Now why would they think I'd be calling myself?" and didn't answer.  She called Bell who said they cannot do anything about these "prank" calls.
