Received call for the number 613 704 2170, claiming to be revenue canada, recording was a woman voice poor quality static, requesting for me to call back the number immediately or legal procedures would be taken against me.

They call threatening that the RCMP will be dispatched to arrest you for years of unpaid income taxes which have recently been uncovered through a 5 year audit of your tax records. The amount ranging in the thousands of dollars. They will attempt to obtain banking or credit card information in the process.This is a scam.

I just had the exact same thing happen to me... he gave me a CRM# said that I owed about $3000.00 and that if I hung up that he was sending the police to arrest me. This is ridiculous... He actually was yelling at me on the phone saying that I shouldn't hang up on him or have to suffer the consequences.

Received a phone call with a threatening message today from a women (with bad static on the line) who identified herself as a Canada Revenue Agency telling me there was a problem with my income tax and legal charges were pending and that I had to phone back about it, so I called back and was then verbally abused by a man who treated me and told me he was forwarding the papers to the RCMP and they would arrest me within the hour. So I first went on facebook to see if anyone else had received this call, and several have in the Glace Bay area, one friend told me that there are warnings out about this scam, I then phone Revenue Canada and they are aware of the scam , they told me to report it to Anti-Fraud Center online so I went to the webpage, and I failed to understand how to report this phone call there, and really didn't understand using my banking access there to report something ( which of course people who are being scammed are not apt to do) anyway, I found this site on facebook and decided to report it here. We got a call from this number, they left a message we needed to call back because very sensitive information and possible arrest could be made.  I called back and a lady identified herself as worker officer Morgan Brown and her badge number was CRM49726 and that we had unpaid taxes for the year 2008-2013 and we had two attempts of delivery one in November of 2014 and another in May 2015 where they supposedly left a yellow badge ticked saying we had to contact them within the next 19 days or be arrested.  I told her we got a letter from CRA last year saying we owed money and that was paid in December right of way due to a calculation error, so why do we owe them more money.  Frankly we don't make enough to owe them this money so I wanted proof, she tried to get to know if H & R block did our taxes and I said no and that I didn't remember the name of the company that did ours in previous years but that I had been using turbo tax so what was the problem.  She kept saying she would release a warrant within 45 minutes if I hanged up and I put her on mute and called the police from my cell phone where they confirmed this is a scam and to hang up.  When I confronted her of this she said this is not a scam but the CRA and I said well why are you calling me at night time when I cannot confirm any of what you are saying.  I asked for the number of the Ontario Court house and she said I didn't need that, I said I wanted papers I wasn't going to pay money with no official bill, she said fine the police will be dispatched and bank accounts our home our paychecks would be seized.  For real this is very scarry and had me very nervous, I can see people getting scarred into paying this.  When I asked her where were my local police at she said don't worry we have all your information and your bank information as well.  I told if you have our bank information you know we do not have that money in the bank at this time.  So boy she was very persistent and very mean. Very hard to understand her heavy accent and static on the phone.  So beware and call your local police if you get a call like this.  Unreal!!!!

My question: If everybody knows this is a scam including CRA, how is it that this number is still emitting calls ?

Public safety demands that this operation be closed down.

Exactly my question too, Gordon.  I called Bell to have them block this number and/or investigate, and was told to call the CRTC number (1-877-249-2782).  This was at 5:30 pm; the CRTC offices are closed at 4:30 pm.

It was very scary, the gentleman gave me his name as Kevin Blake with a badge number of CRM-43593 and insisted that if I not make a payment of over 3000.00, than someone would come to my home to arrest me within 45 minutes.
I told him that I did not owe such an amount and if I did that I would not be getting a phone call as such without receiving an official written notice from Canada revenue. He told me that if I hung up he would have the RCMP at my door in minutes.
I told him I was going to call canada revenue myself to discuss this matter and I would call him back, I did call Canada revenue to report this bogus call and they were very simpathetic and told me to ignore the call. I called the number back of
1613-704-2170 it took a long time to get through, but when I finally did I reversed the scare and told the gentleman that
I knew this was a bogus call and I gave him a few of my own WORDS, I also told him that the call was being traced and the police would be at his door not mine in 15 minutes. He Hung up!

These people pretended to be the CRA and called themselves Bradley Cooper or something. Like previous posters they claimed I had not paid taxes for 2008-2015 sand said I owed 3000 dollars. I had to "pay now or be arrested". They then tried to coerce me to give up my cell number so I "could get the money faster"

Bunch of scammers couldn't even tell me my full address but knew my name and number. But couldn't get my house number or postal code right.

The recording was left on my vm saying it was very urgent from REV CANADA and that I call back immediately as it is sensitive. Cld back they claimed I filed criminal tax returns....the papers were sent to the courts, I would lose all my belongings, my drivers license would be retrieved, lose my home and be put behind bars. I was in so much shock I didn't think to google the number but when I did i realize others had received the same call I was releived learning this is a SCAM... he wanted my cell# ...I stupidly gave it to him as we could not continue the call unless I was on my cell. He asked me for $2986.73 to clear my name....I was in hysterics til i checked this out....says his name is Officer John Rodriguez, Badge# JB1307, case # and gave me the address of 555 Mackenzie Ave, 1st flr. Scariest part he knew my 1st and last name and my home address!!!!! These people have to be stopped and thrown in jail immediately!!!! I am still in shock over the whole situation!!!! BEWARE OF THIS SCAM, I JUST ABOUT BECAME A VICTIM!!!

I received my second call today Saturday Oct 10;
Call 1: ( several weeks ago) I picked up, very rude man's voice telling me he was putting me through to his supervisor, I was left on hold for a few minutes, the "supervisor" was extremely rude and intimidating, however when I challenged and indicated the call had not come up as a "Government of Canada" number and I assumed it was a scam he hung up. When I tried to call that number ( I don't remember it now) it was not in service.
Call 2: I just missed a call today from 1-613-704-2170 so not knowing who it was I called back. He identified himself as Officer Kevin Blake from Canada Revenue Service and quickly rattled off a badge number. He indicated there was a legal case against me. He knew my first and last  name and address and was about to read out the 'legal charges'; again when I challenged him that the number had not come up as a "Government of Canada"  and I was not going to listen to any "charges" he hung up. On reflection it is unlikely one would get a call from CRA on a Saturday and certainly our CRA employees are much more polite! Both calls were disturbing despite the rational part of me knowing it was likely a scam. In other circumstances if I was not fluent in English or perhaps new to Canada and unaware of some of the red flags (no phone ID, rude behaviour, threatening me with legal etc.) I may have fallen for the scam and given out valuable information.
I will report this to the RCMP anti fraud on Tuesday by phone.
