- Shronda GantHello,
I just received a call from Christopher who stated that he was calling from Microsoft Technical support. He stated that my computer may be infected and whenever i go online files are being downloaded to my computer without my knowledge. I don't know how he obtained my number but he knew my name. Good thing i wasn't around my computer because there's no telling what they would have had me try to do.- Caller: Microsoft
- Refuse to be fooledOkay, so these guys call to say my Windows PC is infected. Since most of us have Windows PCs, thats a very attractive line. These guys are not from Texas; I could hear them talking in Hindi in the background. I am worried how they got my details though.
- Caller: 247
- DreamerI got the same call, christopher, texas, and think these cowboys fromanother-land are buying our info from the stores where we bought our pc. I june got a laptop as a gift for my grandson from best buy. Hmmmm.
- Caller: Microsoft tech support
- LeannI got a call also saying my Windows was infected. He asked if I was near my computer so he could check. Not sure what he wanted me to do but I hung up. He also was east Indian. Could not understand his name. If there was a problem I wouldn't have been able to fix anyway due to not being able to understand him. Not sure how he knew it was registered to me. I bought my computer at Costco. I think it must be something to do with the Windows Registry.
- ClarissaI just got a call from "Peter" saying that my hard drive had been infected, that he worked for Windows. This guy called early in the morning and told my daughter this and that he would call later. He did call later and I started questioning him, I asked how he knew my computer was not working , I requested a number so I could call him and prove that he was saying the truth and he gave me 613 7770611 and then I asked where he was , he said he was calling from Chula Vista, CA, That's where I live!!!!!, and he gave me an address an and a zip code and then I told him that he was lying, I never mentioned that I lived in Chula Vista, but told him that the area code was wrong and the zip code did not exist.
Careful with this guys, he sounded Indian, very difficult to understand.- Caller: Windows technician
- Audrey Peel| 1 replyI got the same phone call and he said his name was Shane Bill from microsoft. My computer was full of infections. Said they ran a scan and would fix it . It was going to cost $150.00 to take out 24 PC Care for 1 year. I call microsoft and there no such thing.

- jaybee replies to Audrey PeelYes I just got this call. They tried to tell me my computer was infected. I figured it was a scam so I asked them what kind of computer I had. Obviously they couldn't tell me. So I told them if they knew my computer was infected they should be able to tell me what kind of computer I had. I asked for their number so that I could report them since their number came up as "unavailable" and they gave me this number. Scam!!!
- ASawTwo calls received from this 24/7 tech support. Same as the above posters. Telling me my computer is infected. Very difficult to understand him. He called me at work and had my name! I don't know how he got it. I told him I was at work and was not at my home computer. He wanted me to give him my home number so he could call me. I said no but that I would take his number. This is the number he gave.
- verna wrightsomeone called saying they were fron 24/7 your computer was infected and wanted remote access to computer. called provided nbr of 6137770611 and a website of www.ammyy.com
- Caller: 24 pc care
- julieI have seen so many different #'s posted on here all saying the exact same thing all of you are reporting! Next time they call, play along then start to scream that whatever they told you to do made your computer start to smoke!
- anonymous replies to twTHIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.
- DaveBen Joseph called me with the same story. Check the name. I told him I would just throw my computer away and get a new one. HA!
- TruthI just received a phone call from the same number. Well, it showed as unavailable. My experience was very similar to those of you. The man was trying to persuade me to buy his service, but I felt something was off about our conversation. I told him that I don't have $130 to fix my computer right now and that I'll call him back if I decide to do it. He gave his name as "Mace/Mact" but it sounds like "Matt". I doubt that it's his real name. During our conversation, he said that my computer was really infected and I needed to act quickly. I told him I have "McAfee" for security protection. He claimed that McAfee doesn't protect computers from online infections or malware. This is interesting because I'm pretty sure it does. After hanging up from the 613-7700611, I decided to call McAfee to clarify things. The representative reassured me that it was indeed a SCAM! McAfee doesn't call customers unless they stated that they wanted McAfee to do so. Also, he also told me that McAfee does protect against online invasions. So if your computer protection program stated that you don't have viruses, don't worry about it. Don't believe that Indian man if he called you and trick you into thinking that something is wrong with your computer. I hope this helps! This world is full of good and bad people. In order to stay away from the bad people who try to scam you, we have to be smart with our speech and actions! :)

- Failsame as above. Thick indian accent. Said he was "Sam Barker", clearly an alias. Claimed my Windows computer had a virus (I only have Macs). Callback number is located in Ontario, Canada, to avoid US Federal wire fraud laws and "do not call" laws. Most people wouldn't know immediately that that area code dials Canada rather than US.

- BobReceived a call on my cell phone stating that my computer had a "terrible" virus, and I should turn on my computer and sign in to allow them to fix it. When I asked how they got my number, they told me I was registered, and I really needed to turn on my computer so they could fix this virus. They also had my ame. After getting the call-back number from the woman who couldn't speak English (the connection was also horrible), I told her that I don't have a computer. I borrow a friends computer when I need to to e-mail or look up stuff on the Internet, which is what I'm doing now. This is a TOTAL SCAM. BEWARE. I filed an FCC complaint. Maybe they'll have some luck getting this Ontario call center/scam operation shut down. The FCC actually has agreements with Canada and Mexico for telecommunication issues, so maybe they can do something. Do to FCC.gov and file Form 1088G to complain about this scam. Good luck to all.

- EdI just got a call from them. Claimed they were from "Microsoft Windows Technical Department" and that there was a malicious virus going around my area--said they were calling to walk me through the steps to determine if my computer was infected. I strung the guy along for a bit--said his name was "Ricky Smith" (which screams "fake name" to me, when combined with his broken English) and that this was Job ID 24J36. He gave me a callback number (613-777-0611) and said it was Microsoft Windows Technical Department (which is ridiculous--"Technical Department?" As opposed to all those other departments at Microsoft? Please.)
I strung him along for a while until he started to give me instructions for what to do--that's when I told him I use a Mac. "Ricky" got pissed off, and asked "Why do you get involved with something that is not your business?" I replied, "You called ME." He then hung up.
BTW, the number that appeared on my cell phone when they called was 212121212- Caller: Unknown--they CLAIMED they were from Microsoft Windows Technical Department

- AnonymousMy grandmother had received a call earlier in the day & told me that someone had called about my computer, but that she couldn't understand him. She had asked him to call back in a couple hours and he did. I answered the call this time, though the number had come up as unknown on our caller ID. A man, claiming to be one Mark Wilson, with a thick Indian accent was telling me very quickly that my computer had downloaded a dangerous virus while browsing the Internet & he was intensely demanding that I turn on my computer. I knew that this was a dangerous scam & I'm not stupid enough to turn on my comp. I asked for his company's name again, which "is" 24/7 PC Care, and for a phone # to call him back at; (613) 777-0611. He claimed that his company was affiliated with Microsoft and that they had received a report that I had downloaded a virus that would crash my operating system. He kept trying to overtalk me while I was speaking, demanding that I needed to listen to him and go turn my comp. on. The background noise sounded like a crowded convention center or a very populated town square (probably having coffee while ripping people off). He asked if I wanted to speak to his supervisor, because I told him I couldn't really understand him, and another thick accented Indian man identified himself as Jay Watson. Right. He was even more hostile in his demands for me to turn on my computer and yelled at me that I needed to listen to him. I told him no. That I wasn't going to turn anything on, but that I had a Geek Squad membership and I was going to have them check it out and that I would find out who he was. He hung up on me :) Now the Squad is checking my computer, though I haven't actually used it in weeks for Anything, and we shall see if there's anything in there from these creeps. In the meantime, I have unplugged my routers & I'm going to replace them, so at least I'll have some different machine DNA & hopefully they won't be able to hack me the next time I turn my comp on in the house. I think that they are just calling people with Internet service because neither my phone, iPod, or computer have any other relation to gmas house phone number. I googled the # from my phone immediately after the call & found what I thought I would...so I saw this sight to report it & I have. I'm gonna keep reporting these jerks to whoever else I can as well. It would be easier with a computer & a safe Internet connection though... :(
