A new number to be blocked. Wasn't at home at the time and left a recording message in answering machine. Not sure what it was but deleted right away.

Googled it and arrived here as the first link, so it can't be a legitimate # with a real business behind it. Real businesses don't hide.

Since it doesn't correspond to the tel #s of anyone I do business with, nor any family or friends - the only three groups/reasons for which I have a telephone number. Don't know what it was, just deleted it. Don't really care either.

Rec'd a call from this number today but it didn't leave a voice mail. Called it back and it was picked up by a robo answerer (presumably) which didn't identify itself.

This call was trying to sell me a vacation package in cancoon mexico.  was giving me 2100.00 toward a 3500 package.  all they needed was my credit it card number to bill me for the remainder..

That is a fraud call. Once they have your credit card information, look out. Even if there is a trip, the terms and conditions make it nearly impossible for you to go. You will pay fees regardless.

Another scam pre-recorded call – this one was recorded by a male professional announcer (sounds like US game show voice-over, almost no accent but not Canadian).

Starts with ‘Congratulations – you recently entered an on-line contest with one of three retailers, and your entry has been drawn to win $2,600 towards an all-inclusive cruise vacation.  To claim your prize, press 1 and you can claim your $2,600 Travel Dollars towards an all-inclusive vacation to Cacun. (Repeats.)  Or press 3 to be removed.”   DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING - just hang up.

Of course no business name or caller ever name is mentioned.  New version of the timeshare scam, which is listed on the RCMP website Top Ten Scams - a scam within a scam to get personal data and income level to create fake IDs with to commit credit card and other fraud.  Don't press anything, as this just confirms your number is 'valid' and you get more calls (they also sell numbers, and use  robo-dialler).  Report here and to your local anti-fraud crime unit.  

If you're really fed up, contact your elected official telling them to support better privacy and telecommunications fraud prevention, including international cooperation to shut these 'professional scammers' down.
