Received a threatening phone call and also was left a voicemail saying I was going to be arrested if I didn't pay.

Total scam being operated out of India.  Ignore them.  You can hear the Indian accent in the guy's voice.  First he said he was calling from India!  Then he said Indiana.  Total scam.  Ignore all calls from this number.

I received the same call today also. He first called my work and I am out right now on medical leave but my boss called me stating that this attorney firm had called and that they said very important and so my boss gave me the name and number not 2 minutes after I got off the phone with my work they called my cell phone a guy that I could barely understand said my name and said I needed to be quiet and listen to an affidavit saying that I am being sued for some pay day loan...I started to say I never took out any such loan and as I said that he said I told u to shut up that I am rude and that I will be arrested and fired from my job as I am not cooperating. So I stated here is my lawyer. I put my husband on the phone that told him that he was a lawyer and that if he continued to harass his client that he would take out a police report on him and he ended up hanging up. I blocked the number from my phone but also called my work and told my boss it is a scam and that if they call back to tell them I no longer work there! So harassing I filed a complaint with both bbb and ftc and attorney general!

Well all of you are not alone. What a wonderful world we live in. I have had this same phone call. I really feel sorry for these people because they know nothing about the laws and debt collection practices act. I have had numerous other calls and threats as well. I don't understand why these scammers can't be caught and put behind bars. When you hear there voices and they can't even speak English properly then that's a red flag. Any time a company or debt collection company wants to collect a debt they must by law send to you verification paperwork that the loan or debt did indeed commence on such and such a date. Then the defendant has approximately 30 days to dispute the debt. The law can't put a person in jail for not paying a debt.

This is in reply to B Maybe you can go to the local police department and get an arrest warrant on this so called debt collector. Maybe put him in jail. He seems to want to put everybody else in jail. People like this shouldn't even be allowed to have a phone number or even for that matter be able to talk. I just wish they would pronounce my name correctly instead of Runald Fuuler and pronounce other words as well. I don't even believe they are in this country and if I had to guess probably India.
