Have several unanswered calls with no message from this number.  Previous post states it's Vanderbilt.  Thanks, that makes sense.  I am an alum of VU A&S and VUMS.

All outbound calls from Vanderbilt University's main campus use this trunk line.

I had my briefcase stolen on christmas day with my checkbook, and forged checks having been passed with this number written on the checks and variations of this # 343-0743 343-0762

My mother recieved several missed calls from this number.  One website( http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:ju84mdCO ... clnk&cd=5&gl=us   )
list this number as one for a Mr. Burgess Mitchell, at Vanderbilt University, however when the number is called ther is an automatic recording stating that it is a number for outgoing calls only. The Vanderbilt directory listing for Burgess Mitchell is 615-322-2567.

Mysterious calls from Vanderbilt University Trunk Line are not mysterious.  The 615-343-0473 telephone number along with several other combinations are know as a generic phone number that displays on all caller ID systems when a call is received from Vanderbilt University.  There is no way to tell the exact location of the phone the call came from.  Unless there is some type of communication coming from a person calling from Vanderbilt, which would lead you to believe that a crime has been or is about to be committed, it would be safe to say that you could disregard the calls as a wrong number. If something is said that leads you to believe that the caller is a harassing or threatening caller you should report the calls to the University Police.

The phone number shows up when someone calls you from the hospital, as well as the university.  Some offices within the hospital (Hillsboro Medical Group) for example, have their own trunk line that shows up, but 343-0473 is the "default, everyone falls on it" trunk.  I see it show up when anyone calls me from the campus, including for appointment reminders.

Got a call from someone who would not identify herself but wanted my email address.

Read post from Will Call on jan 15th and you will get the factual and correct answer to this question.  Do not listen to posters who claim they know whose number this is.  It could be anyone calling from any registered and listed Vanderbilt phone number, including but not limited to, all University and medical contacts.  Also, keep in mind that Vanderbilt is the largest employer in the city of Nashville so this call could be in regards to anything from Alumni fundraising to the results of your cat scan.  Good luck!

I'm in montreal and I have no cat to scan or money to give to anybody in nashville. I mean I am from "514" area! i did not answer...

I recieve calls morning, noon and night from this number. I'm tired of it and want it to stop.

I just spent almost a week in the hospital at Vanderbilt having been admitted through the ER. I got a call from this number just this morning and went online to check who it was since I did not answer. They called again, this time I answered. It was a courtesy call following up to see how I was doing after my release. I also do alot of other business at Vandy involving myself and kids and always get this number when there is a phone call from any department on campus. I unfortunetely didn't recoginize the number this morning or else I wouldn't have looked on here but I'm glad I did to set the record straight about who is calling. Don't just blow off the call especially if you or your family have had care at Vandy....it could turn out to be important!!

first off, this website is awesome. i called the number back, no answer, no voicemail. but, the vanderbilt line does make sense. i worked 'out of' vanderbilt for some time, and it's true that one common number does show up on caller id's.  maybe it was a friend calling since we all still talk to each other regularly.

Yeah I got calls from this too on my Yahoo Phone Number & how the hell they got it is beyond me... I never got the call they just left voice mail that goes to my email instead.

These are presumably solicitation calls that I do not take. Remove my name!

My coworker gets calls from this number every day at the same time, he answers and there is nobody on the line. His number is one of 50,000+ numbers at the university hospital we work at in Oregon?? Don't know why someone would be trying to call out department from Vanderbilt.

Block the call like I did

I am a massage therapist...and someone named "Tom"...and "Don" to my coworkers...has been calling me from this number. He has no showed on me, and is still calling. I feel nervous about him...I think he expects more than a professional massage, because he refused to tell me his full name and this is the # he gave me as a reference. I hope no massage therapist actually ever work on him...I feel like he is a bad person...and Vanderbilt needs to stop him from using their phone lines. Yet when I call them, they can do nothing to help me. Kinda scary.

I'm a student caller with the Development office, and if you're an alumnus or parent, then the call you're getting is from our annual fundraising campaign with this office.  Most likely anyway.  The number isn't an incoming line, just outgoing for the call center in the Baker Building and whatever other offices use it.  But please don't be alarmed (although it's justified.  "medical center" -- sheesh!).  We're just calling to update info and see if you'd like to support.

Note: the quickest way to get us to stop calling is not to not answer.  We just have to call back the next day.  We are allowed to take you off the list for the year if a caller actually speaks to you and finds out whether or not you want to give.  Because we've completed communication with you, then we can stop calling.  But if we never get a yes or no, we have to call back.  Sorry!  Please just answer for us and talk for a few minutes and we'll be out of your hair :)
