I was selling an alarm system on Craigslist and got a text message from 617-684-5914 asking if the item was still for sale.  I replied back that it was.  I then got a text msg saying to send him my name and address and that he would add $40 to my asking price and send me a MO/check.  (The hair on the back of my neck went up.) I replied back asking if there was a problem paying cash?  Then Googled the phone number and found this page.  So what do I do now?

Thank god I read this I have been corresponding with this individual for a week now and decided to look the number up on Google and look what I found ! What a life saver. His name was Williams Albert this time. [***]!

I was selling something on craiglist and he also added the whole im sending an extra 40 to keep the item in his favor and asked me to take my ad down so he knows its saved for him...and as I asked questions he wouldnt answer so i said forget it  .... And I googled the number and here I go my gut feeling was right all a scam

same texts as everyone else was receiving. he text back 4 times this morning, the first was a copy of the original text saying he needed a full name and address, then saying money order was sent and he sent the money order over for too much. he also requested we took the listing down

This jerk is still active now. Just receive a text message using the same script. It is a scam right away. Here is what I replied "What about adding $4000? So you can make more money." LOL
As a thumb of rule, whenever someone start telling you a story you should be careful. It will be most likely a scam. Some times scammers will say that they are traveling overseas or they live overseas and ask you to give the extra money they give you to the person who help to ship his furniture

I just got a message (where I live in California) from this scammer (in Massachusetts) few hours ago wanting 2 send check 4 item I'm selling on Craigslist. He asked 4 my address while I was distracted, so  I sent it 2 him. I responded 2 his text (when I wasn't paying  attention) expressing interest in his offer 2 send extra $40 for the favor of holding item I was selling on Craigslist 4 him. He said he'd send check/money order w/ the EXTRA $ (I assume 4 favor of holding item 4 him & 2 cover shipping charges) & have me mail product 2 him.  I texted my address  w/o thinking, but shortly thereafter, had a funny feeling within a few min. So I Googled his number & discover he had scammed other people, so I returned this person's text saying that I had already sold items.  Check out interested parties who express interest in any item u sell on line 2 distinguish between honest people & scammer
Easiest way 2 check in a hurry is to Google the phone number the person calls or texts from.

Just got the same message about adding additional  $$ FOR KEEPING IT IN HIS FAVOR.. it's a scam right of the top.

I got the same message for a wheel chair as was stated above. I replied that you need cash for the money order so just being the cash. Never heard back from him. Oh well!

He's trying to stick me Too. What a rube, who in their right mind offers to send money order with out talking about item. "Oops! I sent too much!" "hold in my favor"  Fun to play along with, please send more LOL

Here's how it went:
Scammer: STILL UP 4 SALE ?
Me: Yep.
Scammer: I need your full name and address.Am paying by Money Order / Check.I'll add $50 for keeping it in my favor.
Me: What do you mean by keeping it in your favor?  Where are you located to make the exchange?
