The text and email I received was in response to my response to an ad on Craigslist for a part-time nanny position.  He wanted to hire me sight unseen and pay me twice the going rate in my area.  His ad said he had a large house and dogs, his email said his wife passed from cancer, lived in an apartment, that he worked for cartel.com and was being transferred and that they were paying for all of his childcare expenses.  That I would receive a check the week before his arrival and that I should take my pay first and then purchase a list of groceries from the remaining, which he would provide the list.  He also wanted all of my contact info, because I didn't send a resume (I'm careful). He texted me after he sent the email to let me know that he had sent an email. I responded to his email with questions, like "don't you want to meet the person who is caring for your children?" and also about the discrepancies in his ad and email.  Then I texted him to let him know that I needed a response.  NOTHING.  this is a scam to somehow get info...first to get trust and then get more info.  I imagine as it got closer to his "arrival date" that he would have wanted my SSN for "tax purposes" and then my banking info for "direct deposit". Who hires a nanny sight unseen, especially if she is not  from a nanny referral service?  SCAM!!

Same thing here in Indiana.  I was pretty sure it was a scam when I received the email. Too many language and spelling errors.  And, right, who hires someone online to watch their kids.  This time he was coming with his wife who was expecting their third child.  Looked up the name..Whitaker Charpentier and Cameron Charpentier online...no information provided.  That was the next clue that he was a fake.  No facebook or any other information except for a Cameron Charpentier in Paris. The only information he could provide about "the children" was the flavor of ice cream they like.  Really?  I tracked the address he said he was moving to...it was a house not an apartment.  Looked up the company he said he worked for.... Applegate Group, Inc. and there was no such company in my city or nearby cities.  Then the check came today express mail from a Dorothy King in Berlin, CT. The check was handwritten from EF Language Schools, Inc. in Cambridge, MA.  The check doesn't even look real.  Who are these people that waste so much time doing nothing?!!  If someone you don't know tries to give you a check...you've got to know it's not real.

Hmmm... That's strange he wanted me to clean his home and pay me in advance... I mean damn I know I do a good job but he doesn't. I told him I would stop by and do an estimate... He didn't want that... So I told him I was reporting him for his scam and he never texted me back...

I got a text from this number as well this guy had an ad on Craigslist for house cleaning. I responded cause my wife and I run a cleaning service. Next thing I get a text about how much he would pay and that he would send a check out first and so on. Well with out meeting him face to face or walking through the house and so on I am not doing this. Now with finding this all out on here I sure am not doing this. They really have some nerve doing this to people wow.

Here's a paste/copy of the most recent attempt in the Hilton Head area. They're getting more elaborate. The original post came from Craigslist and l replied with my name and number and l asked for more information. l received this email and a text. l texted back to no response. Then l called this number to a Google answering system. So l left a message. lol l didn't leave any personal information either. Thank God! And thank you all for posting on this as well. Glad they didn't get me. :)

I really appreciate your response regarding the janitorial position and sorry for responding late, My name is Richardson and My wife's name is Ariel Amandamila . We are relocating from San Francisco, California to South Carolina with our twin sons Ethan and Nathan. I have been transferred to head my company branch over there, so I will need someone who could help me in taking care of the apartment by doing some house work while i am off to work because we are expecting our third child soon and it will be very stressful for my wife to do the cleaning.

I will be offering you $350 weekly, I will be needing your services for 5 hours at any suitable time of yours. I believe you are fit for this position in as much you will prove yourself to be a reliable and good person, My company's headquarter will take care of all your payments and other expenses too, so I will instruct them to pay for the first week before our arrival so as to secure your service, actually if i am satisfied with your service after the first week, i shall make it weekly and with time make provision for an increase in the payment.

They will be making out a check to you before our arrival, you will be receiving a check out of which you will be deducting your pay of $350 for the first week and you will be using the remaining to buy groceries and other things needed in the house, you will getting this foodstuff on the day of our arrival which is the 25th of July, 2013. Actually our flight from California will arrive at night so you will be getting the groceries in the morning and making all other preparations. I will also instruct my Realtor to mail the keys of the apartment to you as soon as the renovation work is completed so that you can do all other necessary preparations before we arrive. The apartment is located at Marshland Rd, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. I will also email you the shopping list in due time.

You have to get all the shopping ready before our arrival so that we wont have to start running around when we arrive, So I would be needing the following Information from you to make out the check to you.

Full Name to be on Check,

    Home Address :

    City, Zip Code:

    State:

    Cell Phone:

    Home Phone:

    Email address:

All I need from you is total honesty and sincerity and you will also have a nice period of time working with my wife. I will be waiting to hear from you.

    Thanks.

    Richardson & Ariel Amandamila.
