- Dennis O'Keefe| 1 replyMy girlfriend died over 2 years ago and these recorded messages never stop.
They are looking for her to pay medical bills. The recording says to press a key to get a live operator and the operator never answers.....What do I have to do to stop these calls?.....I cant change my number because I use my number for my business- Caller: Nationwide

- betttleebeeI keep getting a call from this number, they ask for my husband or his wife, I tell them to call later. They leave 630-528-5126 and no one answers. I have already memorized the number, so I tell them they are not home, but they keep calling.
- Caller: unknown
- LeannaThese people have been calling my cell phone 9+ times a day for literally 3 months. I have no idea who I owe money to but as others have stated here they just leave a message asking for my husband (He's never given my cell # out so I have no idea how these people have it...) and saying if I am choosing to listen to the message I am confirming that it is us and we are acknowledging we owe them money and it is an attempt to collect the debt. If I answer the call I get total silence. I have called the number 4 times and usually get total silence, one time I get someone in India. I am not giving my credit card # or info over a phone for a bill I have no idea about. When I requested a paper copy of the bill I supposedly owe, they hung up on me.
I am sure it's not a coincidence but NOW, the last two weeks, my home phone land line will ring saying "Indiana number" or "Kentucky number". When I don't answer it, my cell immediately rings with this Nationwide # calling.
This is harrassment. I have no idea what they want. They start calling as early as 7 AM and call until after 10 PM- Caller: Nationwide Collections

- MicheleI get repeated computer-recorded phone calls from this number asking for someone who has never had this number. This is my work number and I've had it for at least 11 years. There is no way for me to let them know to stop calling. I've tried to call the number to talk to someone to get my number removed from their list and I get a recording saying that the call can't be completed and I should call back later.

- Wrenna| 1 replyThis company has been calling me 15 times a day for literally 5 years. It is Nationwide Credit, and as others have stated the problem is 1} when they call my cell phone it says "Unknown".....when they called my land line with this ploy it was blocked as we have an "unknown/blocked caller? filter in place. They then went to "Kentucky call" "New York call" "Oregon call" and in my eyes if you are a legit company you aren't playing all kinds of childish tricks on people to get them to answer the phone. If they can't be forthright and honest, they can't expect the people they are calling to be. I try to pay my bills on time, due to a recent serious illness I still have a ton of mail to open that came in my absence. I told her that is you ARE honestly wondering what they are calling about and truly do want the info, they come off looking like a$$es
The last straw came today when I got 5 calls in one hour (from Unknown, to my cell) with the same pre-recorded message asking for :John Smith: when that person doesn't live here and I don't know them. They say to hang up if it isn't John Smith, or they'll wait while you go get them, or wait while you go get a pen. Well if you don't have up you then hear all of John Smith's business and supposed debt. Answering machines don't hang up, so now my answering machine is full of them calling me and now calling John Smith. I have 14 messages on my cell as of noon today and they are all from Nationwide.
The girl was nice. I told her to stop calling my fricking phone 15 times a day. She said I owed a bill to a hosptial I actually probably do owe that money to but I asked her to send me a paper bill as I have a 4 foot stack of bills I have to coodinate with what my insurance paid, etc. She said they had sent a bill, it was from "NCC" and I said well why would I open it, why can't you people be honest if you're demanding honesty from the people you call? If you called and left an actual number or it showed your name on the caller ID, maybe you'd get more people answering. I am happy to pay this bill if I still owe it but want to see it. When they send you the bill all it says is you owe the money, so then you have to contact the doctor/hospital for their detailed bill. Sending me a bill saying I owe X money isn't going to make me run screaming out into the street with my hands over my head. I want to review it, and the doctor's payments. have had collection agencies tell me I owe thousands of $ when it was a matter of the doctor office putting the wrong billing code onto the charge.
She was nice. I told her the people in India are not and since that is their representative, it makes them look like utter jerks even if they do have a point in calling someone. I also threw in, for yucks, that I just read how there is a lawsuit against them for harrassment. (http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1998/10/nationwide.shtm)
The number I got to call was: 1-630-528-5305 which might be regional, I called at noon and spoke to someone in the U.S.
If you are having issues you can also call them at their GA office: this is from the FTC complaint:
"...If you have any concerns with the way we are collecting this debt, write to our RESPONSE CENTER, P.O. Box 161407, Atlanta, GA. 30374 or call us toll-free at 1-800-540-6364 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm ET Monday - Friday."
Thank you for this site and all of you who keep the faith. I have learned so much about how to deal with this, and plus it's nice to have others to complain to- Caller: Nationwide Credit

- Annoyed123456I made the mistake of answering this call, thinking it was my dentist. "Annie" asked for me but I pretended to be my sister to get some information. "Annie" said to have "me" call back at this same number. I asked what it was regarding and "Annie" said it was a personal business matter. Another number from another scammer, it seems like. If you can help it, never answer a call from a number you don't recognize. They do stop calling, eventually... but new numbers will pop up

- AnnaCalled my phone and let it ring two times and then hung up. Received another call 5 seconds later from a different number. This time a message was left asking me to call back. That is not going to happen. Last time I talked to a credit collections agency the girl over the phone got smart and asked me how can I afford a phone when I told her I have no money. Then I said something very rude and she never called back. They are a collection agency that collects on medical bills. The odd thing is that the bill is double than the hospital bill that was sent. Also I have insurance that should have paid the bill. Now have to jump through hoops with the insurance company and the hospital. There are a lot of other numbers they use.
Make sure when you speak to them (if you do) that you are recording the conversation to make sure that they are adhearing to the FDCPA. These are the first words you should say.- Caller: Nationwide Credit and Collections, Inx (NCC)

- AnnaCalled again and left a different number (630) 528-5123. The odd thing was that there were no missed calls on the phone but a voice message was left. Don't know how that is possible. Doesn't matter, not calling them back. The guy spoke so fast when he left a message. Some dude named Tom, could not understand the last name it sounded like Costello. The hospital still trying to double dip and get paid twice.

- Amy| 1 replyI have been getting calls from NW Credit and Collections saying I owe a debt. When I called back, I got no one. Previously, I had an overdue bill (that I continued making monthly payments on), but it had gone over 120 days. I had spoken to one person and we resolved that debt, so I am unsure why there are other calls. My best advice is to contact the hospital or medical group--usually NW Medicine--and resolve your issues that way. Not sure if this will work, but I will try it.

- BigA replies to AmyIt is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
