I called the number back and spoke with a different person and learned I was not the person they wanted. The first caller's English was hard to understand, he wished me good luck and hung up. That's when I got worried. But it was just a collection agency looking for someone else.

I am not a lawyer, nothing I say should ever be construed as legal advice. That said, NEVER give anyone Calling you any information like that. If you owed a debt they would already have it. In the old days they needed your complete social security nuber, now they can add negative infor to your bureau report with just the last 4 digits. They pull what in the trade is called a 5 line. It has your name; address, employment, telephone number and the SS# will look like this xxx-xx-2312 example. From now own when one of those people needing a real job call, tell them they need to be able to verify the debt; you must see proof thereof and until such time that they can furnish it to you they must refrain from calling and harrassaing you.

This is for a debt we incurred almost 4 years ago and had paid off, when I called them on it they couldn't even get the name of the company right.

Our caller ID says Alliance Asset *
I called our local police department to report the harassment. We are a business and they would call for Chris then not want to hang up, seemed to have a response for everything, seemed rude and defiant. I hung up on this person and they called back 3 times!

I received a call this a.m. the caller ID showed Alliance Asset, I had answered the phone and no one said anything even though I could hear noises in the background. I hung up.
At 1:46 Alliance Asset called again, I answered with our company name as before, and a man asked for Joshua.  I waited and I said "I need a last name, this is a business" and he said "I know that" and started lecturing me about my attitude.  "I said I had no attitude but if he calls a business then he has to give me a last name because there are a lot of people that work here", he kept talking about how "people are out of work and don't have jobs, and my attitude" and then he wanted to talk to my supervisor and I told him, No.  There was no more discussion about his original reason for calling. I hung up.   He called right back and I said I wanted to talk to his supervisor and he handed the phone off to a girl and I told her that he needed to ask for a last name when he calls and she said "I need to talk to your supervisor", I asked was she his supervisor and she said, "No".  I said "This is our phone, you called it, and I know the rules that collection agencies have to abide by".  She asked me for my name I told her I wasn't going to give it to her and asked her for their names.  She said she was going to call back and ask for my supervisor I told her I was going to speak with Personnel and she hung up.

The FTC Fair Debt Collection rules are clear:
Debt collectors my not harass, oppress, or abuse the debtor or any third parties they contact, that includes employers and their representatives of which I am one or use threats (and demanding to talk to my supervisor when I ask for the last name of the person they are trying to contact is a threat; he was insinuating that he was going to get me into trouble with my supervisor and make me lose my job).

Yeah this number tried to call me at my work. Good thing I didn't answer and keep my cell on vibrate at work. You have to watch out for these people, a good deal of them are opportunists expecting you don't keep track of your records of what bills you have paid off or not and are counting on you to pay off the same bill a second time.

I get at least 4 calls from them a week, asking for 2 different people, neither of which is for me. The voicemail is always the same--I have an important message waiting for me at such and such number. . . blah blah blah. How do I get these calls to stop already? It's been going on for at least 6 months!

Called me twice today.  Once this morning and kept me on the phone interrogating me as to who the person was and if I know them and where can they reach them, etc.  Assured them that they had the wrong number and I have no idea who the person was that they were trying to reach.
I missed the call tonight and called them back after they left a very lengthy message threatening to take action, etc.  Tonight the young man asked me, "Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed?"  Also asked me why I was so rude.  Put me on eternal hold and like an idiot I held to have my phone number removed.  I called back to speak with a manager and was told by the same twit that he was too busy to talk to me and not to call back.  Rude, rude, rude!  How do people get away with this type of behavior?

My friend gave these folks my cell number as a reference contact for a loan, now they are constantly calling me to get to her.  I need to figure out how to stop them from calling me.  I told them I have no way of contacting my friend.  Any ideas?
