    Jo in Seattle
I got a call from Lisa Miller from Lysco Mainenance for chimney cleaning for $55.  I asked her where she is located, she said the company located in Seattle Downtown on the 5th avenue.  She also gave me a number,  1-877-730-5898 to call back to make an appointment and give her name to get the discount.  She had everything to get you interested......   Not calling back after reading this!  Thank you!

What gives you the right to post a man's home address on a public web site?
What would happen if some disgruntled customer that feels he paid too much went to this man's home and did something to his family?
Let me explain something to everyone here , First, a lot of people do not know they even have a chimney that is venting toxic gases if they don't have a fireplace, they just assume that because they don't have a fireplace, they don't have a chimeny  . . .well unless they have electric heat or a direct vent system they do have some type of chimney.

Second, any chimney that is venting an oil fired appliance and is about 40 years old and does not have a rain cap the chances are extremely high that the interior lining of that chimney is severelly deteriorated due to the fact that the bi product of oil when it burns is Sulfer, mix moisture with sulfer and you have sulfuric acid, I don't think I need to get into chemistry 101 but you get the point I am trying to make, Countless times I have gone into a customers home pulled the pipe off the furnace only to find a completely plugged base of the chimney that the burner guy has supposedly been cleaning every season , now if you're in the business of selling parts of oil burnbers and reapirs of oil burners it sems like a conflict of interest to have that chimney venting freely.

Third everyone seems to think that because a chimney is most of the times built with brick and mortar that it is indestructable, well I got news for you, you stand a chimney outside
"ESPECIALLY IN MASS." FOR 20-50 YEARS witht the heating and cooling process and the Freeze thaw process not to mention wind/rain that chimney is bound to have some damage ranging from minor cracking to severe spalling where the actual brick is almost rotted through completely.
Original construction also plays a huge role is how long the chimney will last on the inside as well as on the exterior, countless times I find that the original builder did not feel like pouring concrete around the ceramic lining either for cost of material or plain laziness, take your pick, either way when you dry stack ceramic and start applying heat/cold /sulfer just to name a few the first thing is going to happen is the inner lining will begin to shift and then they will crack because they're allowed to expand too far.

Fourth, every single chimnet that has a positive pressure system "Must have a stainless steel lining installed "   the older systems worked on negative pressure which basically means it relied on the chimney to suck out the exhaust , start poking holes in that ceramic lining and you're going to lose suction the same as if you had a crack in a straw suckin juice out of a glass, that starts to work on the system in a negative and undesirable way in so many ways but as far as the positive pressure system, now the exhaust is being pushed into the chimney and any single slight crack inside the chimney will have gasses blown right through it which can force this exhaust back into the home , or just work on rotting out the exterior of the chimney.

We are the chimney guys and we see problems in about 80 percent of chimney's ranging from flashing work to keep the roof from rotting , to cracks in the exterior mortar, to missing brick, cracked crowns , no raincaps, no dampers on the fireplace {And people wonder why it is always so cold by the fireplace?}  to partially blocked bases of the chimney to fuull blown collapsed and blocked chimney's.
    You're investigating what ?
The job we do every single day probably saves more lives and property damage that yours does and we get nothing but hell and our names bashed day after day and it is killing our business and our families.
I have never sold a job that wasn't needed and I encourage my customers to get a second and even a third opinion and most of the time they will go with me because of my knowledge , I never undersize a lining and I never make up stories about the condition of the chimney , the fact of the matter is a lot of chimney's are just not properly maintained either because they have people like the burner guy saying it isn't needed 'YES EVEN A GAS CHIMNEY NEEDS TO AT LEAST BE INSPECTED, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS AN OIL TO GAS CONVERSION  for the reasons I listed earlier.
What you are doing is making people afraid to call a chimney sweep, there is good and bad in everybody it is not the industry and I will let you know something else, the person you just posted the name and address of on this site is probably the most generous and fair person in the entire industry,he absolutely demands every single job be done to code and if there is an elderly person at the home tells the service tech to get hold of a son, daughter or neighbor , what you read on the internet is all a bunch of made up fictitious garbage brought on by overzealous prosecutors and police that know nothing about the business and what it sometimes takes to install a chimney liner or build a chimney correctly  . . . I'll say it again "CORRECTLY"     why does this industry need to be telemarketed, it is as I said before , there are many many people that don't even know they have a chimney , there are many many people that do not know they need to clean it and also think because the oil or gas guy was there , they automatically assume he cleaned the chimney , did he go on the roof and sweep it ?    No , he probably did not, did he pull the pipe out of the wall and check to make sure the chimeny was not blocked ?   why would he , he'll lose money.
Thank you for your time to give me a chance to tell my side of the story, I have been sweeping and repairing chimney's for 20 years and even I have not seen it all.
    Thank you  . . . .

I'm not convinced that this is a true scam, but this company is certainly a mess.

They cold-called me about fireplace chimney cleaning.  Then,  (I kid you not), it took  SIX calls just to set up the appointment.

When my service day arrived,  they kept me waiting for six hours saying that the service people were stuck at another job, then rescheduled me for another day entirely.

When they finally did show up, they came and left without doing ANYTHING,  claiming that they were not a chimney cleaning company at all, but rather a "furnace efficiency" company and my brand new gas furnace was already too efficient.

    What a waste of time!

I don't mean to profile or judge but your post immediately speaks volumes about you. You don't sound like a highly respected and/or professional businessman but rather of one with poor character. And stooping down with shrewd comments to someone who you "THINK" is an ex-employee, that sir only makes you look stupid.

I am a telemarketer by trade and also a home owner so I have insight to the wonderful world of telemarketing tricks. I too received a number of calls over a few days from these people but when they got me on the phone the man I actually spoke with was polite and had me laughing..... within 2 minutes he went through his speil and brought up a few very good points..... reluctantly I agreed.... they did call me back to confirm and gave me an appointment between 12 - 3:00 and I did get a heads up call from there technician informing me he was on his way over and will be there within 20 minutes.

Upon arrival - 15 minutes later.. there truck pulled up.. two men stepped out and 35 minutes later the job was done. The technician that was behind me boiler actually showed me a part of a birds nest they removed from my exhaust pipe.... glad they came.... comfortable knowing that my liner doesn't have any cracks and I don't have to worry about carbon monixide comming into my house.

I will be calling them back in a couple of years.

Just received yet another call from Lysco.  Today it was "Marcia" and today's price was $70, yesterday was $60.  I am on a do not call list AND, my husband is a certified chimney sweep.  I have told them this multiple times but the callers are just a bunch of telemarketers and they don't care so they never take your name off the list - they just move on.  They only care if they get a commission for setting up an appointment.  This company is fraudulent and they are engaging in illegal business practices.  DO NOT USE THEM.  Here is a link from a Connecticut Senator warning about them. http://blog.ctnews.com/politicalcapitol/2011/ ... chimneys-mates/

I just had Lysco come in for a $75.00 flue cleaning on an oil fired unit.
The ash dump door did have a lot of ash and flue clay bits in it..
The family house was built in 1952.
They said that I'm missing sections of the 2 foot clay flue, and that
a stainless steel bypass flue needs be inserted in the clay flue.
    SO2 does break clay.

Paper estimate was $2,400.  Seem quite high.

No flue cleaning ($75) was done because the wire brushing would
    damage the clay flue, further

I agree that something needs to be done before a home inspector
    evaluates the home before selling.

    Any comments ?

I don't know who you people had your work done by, however I had my chimney serviced by LYSCO for multiple years and have never been unsatisfied. Every year when my sweep is done, the workers are nothing less then honest and professional every time. NEVER once, have I been scammed or taken advantage of. They never try to sell me more then what is needed, which is only yearly sweeps for my oil furnace flue. I have recommended LYSCO to multiple of my neighbors and friends, and they all have been nothing but pleased with all the work done by Adam & his workers. Its unfortunate you all haven't been pleased with your work, however from experience I believe that LYSCO is the most honest and trustworthy chimney cleaning service out there. Before coming across LYSCO, I had other chimney services come out and give me estimates saying I need a lot then I really needed. When LYSCO telemarketers called me asking If i needed a sweep, I also explained to them I wanted a estimate for comparison. When LYSCO's workers arrived and took a look at my chimney, they laughed and explained in detail, and showed me the pictures taken from inside my chimney that I didn't need nothing more then a regular oil sweep. I'm sorry you feel you were scammed, however it isn't LYSCO who's doing the scamming. It's all the other companies out there. LYSCO saved me tons of money and have been nothing less then pleasant every year I see them. Loyal Customer for years and will continue!! LYSCO ALL THE WAY!

first of all, this website forum has nothing to do with where him or his brother live. You seem to know some much about his living situation, are you one of the hookers renting a room in his house? I'm unclear about how this make him a low life, its seems to me hes doing something better for his family by running his own business, wether its at his home or an office, his bills are still being paid by no one but himself. The only ones who appear to be low lives, are the pathetic people who have nothing better to do then sit behind a computer and judge someone else due to your own JEALOUSY that Adam is doing way better in life then any of you. Wether you guys are old friends, simple jealous people in the world, or  other chimney companies/workers, you all should worry about yourselves and your own lives. I don't understand how by running a business puts your kids in harms way? Seems to me, a low life isn't someone who owns a huge office and has multiple trucks going out daily. Stop drowning in your own misery that your doing nothing in life, and Adam has great success in his. Stop hating it make you UGLY!

Two Long Island men were arrested Thursday and charged with larceny in connection with chimney cleaning and repairs they did in New Canaan.

Adam Joyce, 26, and his brother Travis Joyce, 22, both of Babylon, NY, turned themselves in at the New Canaan police department shortly before 7 a.m. after being told there was a warrant for their arrest.

The arrests stemmed from an article in the Stamford Advocate about the brothers' arraignment in Norwalk on charges that they performed $3,200 worth of unnecessary work for a 63-year-old Wilton man. An elderly Village Drive resident read the article and called New Canaan police on April 4, saying she was afraid she had been defrauded by one of the men as well. She told officers that Adam Joyce had charged her $2,800 to clean her chimney but that another chimney company which inspected his work had found numerous problems.

The Village Drive resident later contacted a Stonehenge Drive resident, who had had chimney work performed by Travis Joyce this spring. The Stonehenge Drive resident told police she paid Joyce $3,500 for work on her chimney, which another chimney company later said had been done improperly.

Adam Joyce was charged with larceny in the second degree from a person over 60, second-degree reckless endangerment, performing home improvements without a certificate of registration, failure to provide notices in sales agreements, making sales illegally without a tax permit, and performing craftsman work without a license.

Travis Joyce faces charges of larceny in the second degree, performing home improvements without a certificate of registration, failure to provide notices in sales agreements, and making sales illegally without a tax permit.

Both men were arraigned Thursday in state Superior Court in Norwalk and released on $5,000 bond. Neither man has yet entered a plea in the New Canaan cases. They plead not guilty to the Wilton charges.

KINGSTON (CBS) — They throw it in drive, hit the road and leave some tools of their trade behind. The I-Team went undercover at a Kingston home to catch a crew of dangerous con men in the act.

Police say Adam Joyce is the ringleader. Joyce and his workers are allegedly ripping off people all across New England leaving a trail of damaged chimneys in their path. They use several company names; Lysco and Energy Star Maintenance were making the rounds in Massachusetts.

Sgt. Jack Kennedy of the Concord Police Department said here’s the pitch, “Energy Star Maintenance stated that work needed to be performed, that it was a dangerous situation and if the work wasn’t done carbon monoxide fumes would come into the house endangering people.”

So the I-Team made an appointment to have this chimney inspected and cleaned. We setup hidden cameras inside the home of Jean Jacobson who’s the treasurer of the MA Chimney Sweep Guild. Her husband, who’s a certified chimney sweep, made sure the chimney was clean and in good shape.P.S Superman is a [***]
