Got a text from this number regarding an item on gumtree.
"good day, whats your final price for the listed musical instruments at gumtree? email me to sheronelliot(at)hotmail.com"

We were contacted by this guy on the 15th of March with the same 'Good Day, I like your price'. He wanted to pay thousands directly into my father in laws account without even seeing the item. Asking us for email and pay pal details. Alarm bells rang and thankfully we realised that he was a fraud.

I got the exact same email "good day, whats your final price for the listed musical instruments at gumtree?  I was very suss and although we kept good communication going I just wondered why he mentioned Musical instruments when that wasnt what I was selling and why he wanted to buy them without seeing them?  However I dont know what he aimed to get out of it though?????

I received a message (listed below) requesting my dj equipment (over $2000 worth).
This seems very suspicious.

Just asking about it to make sure its in good condition.so i want you to assure me i will not be disappointed?As am buying this right now and i also want you to please understand that i wont be around for the inspection of it but i have a mover who will be coming for the pickup and check up as well.Im satisfied with your firm/advert price, As im requesting this transaction should be done via paypal so the paypal charges is on me.Payment will be made via paypal only,im presently out of town for some personal reason due to my work.But i  also want you to get back to me with some pics for me to see and also please get back to me with the paypal address for me to make the payment asap

First you will need to tell me what you are purchasing, there are three listed prices for three different combinations of the equipment.

Due to the suspicious nature and response time of these emails I will be contacting my bank to ensure the security of the money transfer. Pickup details will not be sent until the transaction has been completed.

Thanks for your reply paypal is the best way to send money online and it is safe and secure, it is very easy to open an account with them just go to paypal.com.au and open an account with and  Kindly send me your PayPal money request or simply get back to me with the total cost of the item and your  paypal email ID so that i can proceed with the payment asap..And i want you  to know that you are very much safe as with them and also i the buyer as well.

The equipment is in flawless condition and an online video demonstration to ensure the flawless condition of the quipment can be arranged (via skype) for serious buyers.

WOW... Thanks everyone..I GOT THE SAME WORDING FROM THIS PERSON REGARDING SOMETHING I HAD FOR SALE ON GUMTREE TOO JUST YESTERDAY.
I got suspicious when I read the wording 'Good Day'  ' Movers ' & the bit about being out the country on personal but then work commitment, they must think us Aussies are a good target but they just can't get our lingo right.. Thank god..
What they want is access to our PayPal account.. So once you give ur Pay Pal ID then they send us a bogus Pay Pal email regarding the sale, we click the link in there bogus Pay Pal email & sign in to what we think is Pay Pal & bobs ur uncle they now have our password..
What they can get is access to any credit/ credit card/ bank account details and away they go spending!!
Best to always avoid emails with links..

I got a similar message yesterday via SMS asking to email him at sheronelliot(at)hotmail.com regarding an advertisement I had on gumtree Australia. Then the emails came trying to set up the scam:

Got same message in my mail  from sheron elliot lol. I was selling stuff on gumtree and got exact message like you guys. I replied my paypal email suckmydick69@hotmail.com (i made this up lol).

got exactly the same message. Word for word.

Sheron Elliot its all a scam tryin to i was selling something and then she was trying to  get $250 out of me  and taking legal action and contacting the police on me..

hI there i got the same email about a dress im sellling pay pal is cancelling my account and the sheron ellioy apparently contacting police

i have also received similar email from Sharon as soon as I have given an ad in Gumtree. They told me that they will pay $200 more so that I can transfer $200 to their Freight agent account
