Pretended to be the IRS and asked for money to repay my student loans.

They pretended to be IRS to steal my identity

Called and told me he was from federal law enforcement and that complaints had been filed against me and my identity. If I did not call him back they would take action against me.

Man called and told me he was from the IRS. He told me I had to give him 1000.00 immediately to pay back a student loan or he was going to have me arrested.

Same as above, this number called saying there was a complaint filed against me.  Calle IRS after to report the number.

Called and told me that a complaint had been registered against me. Asked if I had registered for the college I enrolled in. I started asking too many questions and he pretended that he could longer hear me. I put him on speaker phone as he was telling me that trying to escape by not answering his questions was only going to make it worse for me... and then hung up

Yesterday, I got a phone call from 347-562-8721. It was not a familiar number to me, so I did not answer. They did not leave a message. I make it a habit of blocking these types of numbers because they are usually telemarketers or scammers. Today, I received a phone call from 646-652-7492 - I did not answer because I did not recognize the number, but they left a voicemail, so I listened to see if it was legit. Scared me! But I decided to Google the number before I panicked. Turns out that a lot of you have had calls from this number...must be a scammer. The voicemail they left was this, "This message is for (my name), this is Officer Frank Martin. I'm calling from federal law enforcement. The reason of my call is to inform you about a legal complaint filed against your name and your identity. So before we take any legal actions against you we want you to call us back as soon as possible on 646-652-7492. I repeat 646-652-7492. And if no response received from your side, you will be responsible for the full legal actions. Thank you."

First of all, he did not identify himself clearly. What the heck is "federal law enforcement". Also, a federal agency has rules and regulations about how they inform you of legal actions. This is highly suspicious. They would likely not leave a threat like that. The message was so very vague.

Same thing happened to me that was reported above. It's creepy that they knew my school, but I bet they got it from LinkedIn. I just put my school and phone number on my profile two days ago. Just now removed it. I should have known better!

"This call is from federal law enforcement ...:" ... with south Asian accent. Scam, scam scam.  How does it go through when I am on the do not call list?

Because the numbers are spoofed (computer-generated), making them next to impossible to trace or be prosecuted. Just because you are on the DNC list does not mean that calls from telecriminals are going to be automatically blocked. It applies only to legitimate telemarketers.

Same thing just happened to me. But when I told them that I needed more information to give to my attorney to give them a call back the guy said turn around I'm standing behind you and hung up the phone. So clearly it is a scam and he got upset because I would not comply with these questions

Same thing happened to me as everyone above. This guy called claiming he was from Federal Law Enforcement. Really freaked me out but apparently, it's a scam! Thanks to everyone for reporting!

Same as above. Called me and said that I need to pay $1,000 or otherwise "marshalls will come and arrest me." Total scam.

Same thing just happened to me from the same #, 646-652-7492

I had a man call me with an Indian accent, saying he was calling from the Federal Government. Listed a number of fraud charges that I was being accused of. Said my license for my profession would be revoked. Said that I didn't file the correct forms for my 2014 taxes for my Student Financial Aid. Said that I owed the government $948.00, that he wanted me to stay on the line with him so I could go to my bank and get a money order. When I told him that I needed documentation of who he was and what charges were being filed against me via fax, email, or mail- he started screaming at me. Telling me I was insulting the federal government and that I needed to shut up and listen to him before I was charged legal actions were taken. (646) 652-7492 --> DO NOT ANSWER THESE CALLS OR SPEAK TO THEM!!!!

Also received a call from this number but didn't answer because I didn't recognize it. A man with an accent left a voicemail claiming he was from Federal Law Enforcement. Told me I needed to call back ASAP or legal action would be taken against me. I looked it up because I figured it was bogus. Caller ID shows it's a number from NY.

So I was checking my voicemail and I had this message in my inbox, I freak out at first but then googled the number and saw this post. I had a similar and yet different message, verbatim the message was:

"This message is for (insert my name here), (insert my first name), this is Officer Scott Anderson calling you from Internal Revenue Service, the reason of my call is to give you notification in regards to a federal complaint that has been filed against your name and your identity. Right now there are three season(?- couldn't tell if this was the word through the accent) charges against you from the National Bureau of Crime Investigation Department, so before anything goes wrong or we take any serious action against you, I want you to give me a call back on urgent basis on my number which is 646-652-7492 I repeat 646-652-7492 , if you fail to call me back then you alone are response of further legal action that will be taken against you."

Someone needs to catch these people, it is not right that this person, from what I've heard, has been doing this for a while from different numbers and harassing people via the phone. Glad I missed the call and that I didn't call back.
