VoIP phone from Fairfax, VA.  Called and asked for me by my first name which I don't use.  When I asked who was calling, they hung up.

Someone from this number called last night soliciting money for the Fairfax Cty. Police Department.  They said to leave a check on the door made payable to FCPA and they would stop by to pick it up.  I called the police department.  They are not soliciting over the at this time and do not ask that checks be taped to the door.  Beware.

1. They call and you answer and hear nothing for at least 15 seconds. You talk, no one responds.

2. If you call the number back, you get a recording (in a foreign accent, talking to fast to be coherent) trying to sell loans.


Due to this, there is no way to ask or tell them not to call.

Needless to say I am on the National Don't Call registry.

I just got the same call as Scam. They said I could tape my check to the door or they could mail materials and I could mail check back. Pffffft I asked for the materials. Seriously? This is so weak.

I just got a call and the guy didn't realize he was on I guess because he's talking to someone else and cussing and they he says oh [***] I didn't even hear that come on.   then click.  you call back and # is not in service.

I received a call this afternoon (3:40PM ET) from this number and the man said "I'm calling for Lynn [and a last name]" and I said no one lives here by that name and he immediately hung up.  I didn't try to call it back but it was strange enough for me to write down number and search for it online.  And what's really strange is the name he asked for was my older sister (by her first and last name) who we sometimes receive credit card offers for randomly at our house.

caller claimed they were from the Fairfax County Police Association. Soliciting for donations for their hero fund and the bereavement fun. If over $75 they will pick up a check from your house. Tape donation to the front door.  they claimed they will leave police paraphernalia at the door upon their departure.

Hang up.  Caller id said Vienna, VA

they just called me a minute ago.  Complete silence.

FCPA is having a drive currently when I called and visited their website.  While some enterprising officers may drive by, they recommend 1 to send a check and put for deposit only on back to protect both parties, but they also encourage using PayPal online directly from their official page to avoid even the perception of fraud.  Also, pls call the official number from their webpage to ensure all numbers are registered w this charity if ever unsure.
