My cell gets a few a month, also on the dnc list. Do you actually think it's working well? If so, you stand alone. I have yet to see one legitimate call come in to my home of all these unwanted, unsolicited calls, that are doing anything but scamming. I check every single number by going to dozens of websites all over the internet & it's either a scam about solar energy, medic alert for free (yeah, right), collecting for veterans (don't believe this one either.........never identify who they are, just that they are collecting for veterans), collecting for police or some new scam that I haven't heard about yet. And I report every single one to the dnc registry & now to the FCC. Oh please. It's sure not working for me.

I am a daughter of a VET, as well as a member of the local VFW, which also tries to deal with people being scammed by telling them to donate straight through the VFW where 100% funds go to these needs. We fund-raise without calls, to do exactly the same. No over head costs, wages paid to call me, etc.
As a memo, I don't donate to anyone to who sends out GIFTS with my donated $$ or robo dials me (several times this week) or won't tell me what percentage is actual donation for the cause. If not 95%, I won't give. There are many out there that meet that standard. I never ever ever answer calls that are either UNKNOWN NAME oe UNKNOWN NUMBER. But if I ever on a whim pick up the phone, I give them a very rude comment and they don't get a word in. I presume you mean from a caller actually selling something you would be interested in, correct? If that is so, then the DNC list is working exactly as described, limiting unwanted sales calls. If you are not receiving calls from all your local insurance agents, real estate agents, landscaping companies, home improvement contractors, etc you can thank the DNC list for that. Prior to the creation of the DNC list those calls used to be a regular nuisance. Then there are the nuisance callers that are exempt such as market surveys and opinion polls as long as they are not an attempt to get you to agree to a later sales call or visit, political calls, solicitations for charities no matter how little actually goes to the charity and debt collector calls. Reporting exempt calls to the DNC office and FCC is pointless since the complaint is discarded as invalid. Action against the true violations is taken although it is not immediate since an investigation has to be conducted and a case against the caller built up. That can take a considerable amount of time to ensure it will stand up in court. The problem is that your expectations along with those of many, many others are much greater than the DNC program ever promised to deliver.

Since they are selling kits, even if for a charity, the DNC rules do apply as Lighthouse for the Blind I believe it was found out when they were told by the FTC they had to abide by the DNC rules when selling the items packaged by their blind workers. So those receiving calls from this number can indeed report them to the DNC office and the FCC but you need to state what they were selling for the complaint to be valid.

This is a rather long answer to some posters who seem to think the scammers use the DNC list to obtain numbers to call, or who think the DNC list does not work. If you are not one of those people, consider exiting this message now.

I want you to think "0" instead of "10". Got it?
Now, get a piece of paper and a pen or pencil, and write down those 10 numbers. Here, I will help you, in case your forgot:
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Now get ready to write down some more numbers. I want you to write them down in the following format:
ABC-DEF-GHIJ
Yes, I know those are letters, but I want you to use numbers, instead.
Think of a number between 0 and 9 ... pick one from the list I gave above, if you wish.
Write it down, instead of the "A", above
Do that nine more times, writing it down instead of the other letters.
Now, look at the result.
Does it ring a bell?
It should, because you just wrote down a phone number!
Mr Computer is very good at making numbers.
Mr Computer can do what you just did in a fraction of a second.
In other words, Mr Computer can make and dial phone numbers VERY quickly.
Scammers who know about Mr Computer do not need to register and buy the DNC list.
Scammers who know about Mr Computer can even dial "unlisted" numbers, or "private numbers" or "brand-new numbers you just got"!
There, now you know all about how scammers can dial YOUR phone number, even if it is unlisted, and even if only relatives know it, and even if it is on or off the DNC list.
I hope that helps prove the DNC list DOES work! It helps prevent calls from registered / legitimate telemarketers, but it is not able to stop calls from telespammers. It is also NOT designed to stop political callers (who usually get the numbers from voter registration lists), calls from charities, or some other companies, such as debt collectors.
Again, I hope I did not insult your intelligence ... if you had any to insult. - Midwest USA JoeThe DNC list and service has nothing to do with the great majority of robocallers, spammers and fraudsters that are not part of the DNC realm, so contact your Congressional officials to see if they can get off the dole with lobbyists that control them and actually pass legislation that enables consumers to manage idiot callers with a simple push of a phone button. The technology is there, but the legislation isn't. And as far as various fake and genuine veterans groups, why are we taxpayers being hounded by this crap? We already pay the better part of $1 TRILLION per year to the military, and they should be able to manage just fine. As a former AF officer, I know all too well how much graft, waste and cheating is going on with the military budget, so spare me your phony patriotism that hides the greed.

- Fed UpI am sooooo fed up with this nonsense. My daughter's cellphone number came up on my caller ID one day and the name underneath was a jewelry store. Another day I came home to find my landline number in my caller ID. I called the phone company and told them about it and they say they can't do anything about it, scammers are getting a hold of phone numbers and using them as their own and there's no way the phone company can track these or do anything about it because by the time the phone company tries to track it the scammers have moved on to another number. The day I came home to find my own number in my caller ID I also had multiple phone messages from people who had received a call from my number, they were calling to find out what i wanted. It was a nitemare, it went on for two days.

- Tamianth replies to HannieNo, Mike isn't a telemarketer. He's a respected member here. I believe you missed his point on this. None of us want these calls, but the DNC isn't a phone call blocker and it can't stop the illegal telemarketers, extortion scammers and fraud calls from happening. Only the honest and legit business's abide by it. Political, Some survey's and charities are exempt from the DNC but even they can get into trouble if they do not abide by a request to be placed on their internal DNC. The only state I know of that doesn't allow charity calls is Oregon at the moment.
Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.
