Called about a job opportunity.  It is a recruiter.

Said they were a recruiter and asked for my social security number. To which I said "No, that leads to identity theft." The call ended abruptly.

Got a call from a "recruiter" with a heavy Indian accent claiming to work for "Logistic group at lancesoft inc." He said he got my information on career builder but wouldn't disclose details of the job and didn't seem to mind my bluntly standoffish attitude. He sent me an email to an email address listed on career builder but set it up as an attachment. I told him I didn't want to open an attachment since I didn't contact him and don't know him. He said to just open the email and all the details would be there. When I cross referenced the company and the supposed job, it was not listed as an available position. I'm SURE this guy sent a virus and isn't legit.

I have received 2 similar calls from the same company in the past 2 weeks. The caller says his name is Sanjay Singh Bais. There are 2 phone numbers listed  703-889-6824 and 703-889-8680.  He asked for many personal details such as full legal name, dob, ss#, ful street address ...  when I refused to give SS# he continued to press me and sent me 3 more emails about it. The position he referred to was for our local UPS office. I have contacted them and they say they do all their own hiring through their website and this was a scam. My question is..what if anything can we do about it???

I highly doubt if your identity had been stolen that the thief would be using it to apply for a job. Reading the other posts in this thread, it sounds like this is a scam to try obtaining your SS #. DON'T give it to them! In fact, just block and ignore the calls if you can.

I did not answer the call and no voicemail was left??? REAL RECRUITERS leave VM's just sayin

Scammer, not legit.  Could barely understand him with thick accent and kids screaming in the background.  I knew before even calling back with my number blocked it was a scam.  No voice mail left.  When I spoke to him I pressed him for physical location of the company and had to ask 4 times.  He then gave me an address in another state in which that address was for a post office when I looked it up online.  Whole sales pitch was for a independent, contract job, $44 an hour, compensation analyst.  He had no idea what was listed on my work history, if he did, he should of realized my profession in HR, so I am very familiar with recruiting, privacy of HIPAA protected info etc.  I really hope people are aware of being taken advantage of when this happens and the legitimacy of people wanting to steal your identity.
