I also received the same voice mail. he left messages in my work phone. I remember this guy's pathetic voice from about 2-3 years ago. Yeah, Indian sounding (no offense for the good Indians), low-living worm. Doesn't he have anything else to do in his pathetic life? This is a scam alright.

I have been getting calls from him for years now.  I would love to scam him back.  This is how pathetic our immigration system is that we let this POS into our country and they he tries to scam us.  Don't forget, the IRS doesn't call, they write, that is, if Lois Lerner hasn't erased all our mailing addresses.

We got a call from this at home where he got to my wife posing as "Marc Jospeh." He gave an IRS ID# and said that there was a case against me. To make it sound legitimate he recited a bogus Case # D######. He said that this case pertained to outstanding balance taxes between years 20XX-20YY amounting to $ (amount), which needed to be paid and it was the last day. Typically, IRS doesnt bother to go after amounts less that $1500 but since the amount disclosed was slightly above (by a couple of hundred) 1500, a collection process has been initiated. Further, he went on to make the issue sound very intense by saying that if not paid there will be a subpoena and arrest proceeding that will follow. At this point the call got disconnected but he called back immediately again (I believe that he disconnected and called back on purpose as a further scare technique) and started being rude to my wife, asking her why she hung up and started threatening her that she needs to take this seriously.

My wife said we had no dues and kept asking for evidence of documentation. He said that the documents had been sent to my home address mis-pronounced the name of the city and cited a "4 digit" zip code. When my wife said that no such document has been received and he should send the documents to us again so that we will respond accordingly, he said that since it was the last day for the payment of the dues it would not help if he sent the documents then. To this my wife asked him to send the documents by email. He said he could not do that either, to which then my wife said she cant do anything either. At this he offered that my wife could speak with the supervisor who would call back in 20 minutes giving the name of the supervisor as "Daniel Hamilton."

Obviously, this was a little unnerving for my wife. Specifically because when my wife said clearly 2-3 minutes in her call that she will not disclose any bank account/credit card # the guy kept saying "Oh we are only calling to inform you of this outstanding balance. We don't process payment. for that you will have to contact your local IRS office." Well at this point she hung up and called me. I wonder if she would have continued on a new number would have been given where a potential "payment of the dues" would have been collected!

Although I knew that this is a scam, I wanted to findout more about these guys since they have been trying to call me and leave voice mails (recorded messages) for the last couple of week. So, just for the heck of it, I called back to see (So that I can write this post for other callers who get online to check this number) and railed into this guy "Marc Joseph".

The fake accent was gone in 2 minutes and the Indian/South Asian accent was back on. (Later my wife also mentioned that she noticed that the accent was abnormal). After a brief heated discussion, which revolved around me asking for proof that these guys were actually IRS, the guy said he was connecting me to his supervisor Daniel Hamilton. There was an audible click and a new voice with an American accent came back on. I suspect it was the same guy.

I asked Daniel for evidence and documentation showing correspondence had been sent and asked that it be sent to the email address on my IRS file. He said he can't send anything and kept repeating that money was due and it needed to be paid and if it was not paid today there will be a subpoena and I will be arrested. To further scare me he said so you live in XYZ county... I said... fine, see you in court.

I am providing the details so that someone else who goes through this and finds this website can be aware. Also please see the link below from the IRS.gov website cautioning against such scams. These scam calls can be extremely elaborate and these guys can even recite the last 4 digits of the social security number. Also, as you will seen in the link below, these calls can be followed up by similar fake calls posing to be Police or FBI to further make you believe the authenticity of this scam and there threats. Nevertheless, it all remains a total scam...

    LINK TO IRS WEBSITE: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam

Later on some research this telephone number is registered to Parity Bit Consulting LLC, which seems like another fraud scheme (selling computer solutions... totally fishy) and as a BBB rating of F.

Please be extremely cautious of such callers and remember that IRS writes and does not call. If IRS does subpoena you, it simply means that they have given a time and date for you to go and meet (With or without documents, as mentioned in the subpoena). Also, there is a protocol for delivering a subpoena since it needs to be demonstrated that you were handed the document without doubt. This is so because if you don't respond to the subpoena, then if forms grounds for an arrest. Overall,.... Don't panic and remain calm :)
