- FrankG. Reyes from "Dept. of Treasury" called. I hung up after hearing that I should get a criminal attorney to settle a claim against me. I'm sure that the rest of the message probably went on to say that I could avoid any unpleasantness if I sent them a payment or a block of prepaid gift cards or some such nonsense. Total scam. The Treasury Department / IRS would send a registered letter, not an automated phone call like this.

- JS replies to Chris JonesIt's a scam. Usually they just find public notices with people who may be late on their taxes or have a tax lien already and are in a payment plan with IRS. This call is just to scare people into giving THEM money. It's a total scam.
- JenMY message was hilarious -- "We wish you good luck as this situation totally unfolds on you, as there is a legal notice for tax evasion and tax fraud, so before you go to the court house, and before you get arrested...bla bla bla" That was so stupid. I hope people don't fall for that ridiculousness. The IRS will give you written notices for a long while, and if you don't contact them, they will get serious by just letting you know via mail that they are going to put a lien on things -- property, paycheck etc. They don't call with this stupid crap. And they wouldn't say "We wish you good luck as this situation totally unfolds on you" LOL!!! Totally!
