Got a recorded call from this number today - they say they have legal paperwork to process and after repeated attempts to contact me (not true from this number), they will be forced to go to my employer (place of business), residence, and that this may affect my banking affairs (what does that mean?). I have been receiving these types of calls for almost a year from different numbers around the country. It is a scam - they attempt to scare you into paying money you do not owe - do not respond - do not give them any personal information. I have reported this number to the Attorney General's office in NY.

Got the same call- its a scam- I called police to see if they infact had papers to serve me (which I doubted cause I havent done anything) they said no and tried to contact the number I gave them and was advised not to give them any information or money.

Ive been getting the same phone calls for about 6 month. the funny thing  is that they are way of with the name of the person they are calling for

I've got a recorded call from this number today stating that they have legal paperwork to process and after repeated attempts to contact me (not true from this number), they will be forced to go to my employer(place of business), residence, and that may affect my banking affairs.  I actually called this number and the people in question is a collection agency that claim I am delinquent on a payday loan that was made in 2006 (also not true).  They claimed they sent legal documents to my address (also not true) and they threaten to freeze my bank accounts for two months unless the creditor--PDL Yes--gets my money.  I have been receiving these types of calls for almost a year from different numbers around the country.  THIS IS A SCAM!!!  They attempt to scare you into paying money that you do not owe.  DO NOT RESPOND TO THEM!!!  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!  REPORT THIS NUMBER TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE IN NEW YORK.

I answered a call on my mom's phone today from 877-791-2880, and it was a recording requiring a callback to 716-362-2807.  The recording stated that they have tried numerous times to reach her and "per company policy" they would not be serving her first at work and then at home.  My mother is currently in the hospital undergoing chemo, so I called the 877 # back and someone answered (no company name, just a person) and when I told him that I currently have power of attorney and he could discuss all calls with me, he told me to fax over the POA.  I asked him WHO I was faxing this to and he would not even tell me that.  I am not going to fax this document to just any POS and would like to know what we are dealing with first.  He ended the call by telling me I should clean out my mother's bank accounts because he was about to freeze them....  Is this really possible?  I think I have enough to deal with right now without having to stress over all this....

In his refusal to identify himself and in his threats of legal action your caller violated several major laws. This tells you that you're probably dealing with a criminal rather than a representative of any legitimate business. You should report this call to the police IMMEDIATELY.

If he calls again you should record the call if possible and *tell* him you're recording the call. In fact, tell him you're recording even if you aren't. That may frighten a criminal enough to get rid of him for good: He's probably much more afraid of law enforcement agencies than you are and for good reason.
