- GS| 6 repliesLeft message stating they have federal documents with my name and I need to call back this number at ext. 209 and not to dismiss this call.
- turnbucks replies to GS| 5 replieswas this legitemate, have you found out either way? just wondering.
I got a call from them about a financial aid debt that was legitimate and I gave them my debit card number so that I can start making payments monthly on this. Can you tell me any more about them? I have learned a lot since receiving another call from another supposed debt collector, or an attorney for one anyway, and found that I should have asked for proof in writing first. But they already have my card number etc. No charges on the card as of yet and their aren't supposed to be until after the first of the month every month until my debt is paid off. How do I find out if this is legitimate? - benThey called my parents house. Asked them for my cell phone number and other information, and told my dad that they had federal documents, and that if I don't have an attorney, they should help me get one.
It's all just scare tactics to get you to call them back and scare you into paying off a debt for which they don't have much of a case against you. With 3 different debt collection agencies contacting me for tuition and medical debts totaling over $30,000, I can tell you that if they have a case, they'll take it to court. Its a sure thing. Especially if they have been calling you for a while.
This company has been on me for over 2 years. They continue to call, and tell me that if I don't respond soon that they'll be forced to send it off to their attorneys. (2 years is long enough) They'll even leave messages ending with fun little phrases like, "Good luck with this one." (But in a very 'holy crap i would not want to be you, because the imaginary s*** storm that I have brewing in my imagination is rather unpleasant.)
A legitimate debt that you legitimately owe to the point where an attorney or federal papers or other things are necessary will involve more than just harassing phone calls.
It's just a business for them. An act in which they must scare you or you won't pay.

- TedReceived call asking about a former employee. When I explained that he no longer worked here, they said they would remove my number. Suggestion: Don't admit anything over the phone, ask for a mailed or faxed copy.

- formerRoswellpatient| 2 repliesI got a call from them, left a message saying that it's very important I call back. So I did, and I was told about an old $200 debt from the dental department of this hospital in Buffalo - the debt is over 8 years old now and I only got one phone call about it over a year ago from the hospital. I was barely 18 when I had that appointment.
I don't think they have a case.- Caller: Security Credit Systems, Inc.

- Great Credit in N.J."Matt" allegedly from "Drake Business School" called today and said to call 716.882.4515 ext. 221. As soon as I returned the call, I realized it was from a debt collector. To my knowledge, I do not owe any debt. I was going to humor myself and actually talk with them, but then I decided to let the "collectors" keep "collecting" from someone else!!! Even if I did owe someone, the economy S-U-C-K-S and I would not pay anyway!!!

- ShelleyThey called my parents house also. My mom didn't give them any information about me, she just took the message. I talked to a Paul Hartman. He seemed very nice; our phone call lasted about 45 seconds. The debt he was calling in was a valid debt that I had. He asked why I hadn't paid it, I told him that I was unemployed. He asked if I was looking for a job and I said of course. He asked me if I planned on repaying the debt and I again said of course. He then wished me luck and said he would call back in a month to see if I was collecting any income to help start paying back this debt. Usually creditors are [***] but this guy seemed nice.
You can't be angry at debt collectors if you have a legitimate debt...it is their job to collect the money that YOU owe. Yeah it sucks but that's life. You created the debt and it is their job to collect it.- Caller: Security Credit Systems

- Rj replies to no nameIf you informed them not to call you at work and they did you should file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and have them fined. ALSO, since this resulted in your termination I would contact a lawyer and file a lawsuit against them.
- AlmaThey called my neighbor last week and told him it was an URGENT LIFE OR DEATH MATTER!! My neighbor!!!!! Can you imagine them leaving this message with someone I hardly know. They just look up phone numbers for a certain address and call everyone that is either in the same apartment building, or obviously, someone near by on the same street. I have an unlisted phone number and don't know how they even got it. The message was from a person named "chris" and it said that I had better get a lawyer and have him or her contact their company because of a very URGENT matter.....needless to say...it's not urgent, and I'm not going to call this idiot back!!! The debt they were trying to collect on is over 7 years old and should be removed from my credit report anyway...which is something I'm looking into right now. They can hold their hand on their butt if they think they're getting anything from me, seeing I'm disabled and can't work anymore...ever try living on a comp payment? It's almost impossible!
