- Kevin PReceived a call from a Kim from that number last week. It just didn't sound right. What company interviews on a Saturday? Just received the same call from Kim. The same BS was passed to me about management positions and Administrative support positions available. Then she gives me the whole shebang about it being a Supplemental Insurance Company that works exclusively with unions and the NFL, etc. Sounds like the same deal that Aflac was trying to pull on me. Why is it when you post a resume on Career Builder or Monster, the only calls you get for employment are from these Supplemental Insurance companies that provide no real benefits, do not pay during a month long "training" program, and provide you with cold leads, or none whatsoever. I do not want a position in sales. My resume says nothing about sales. I want a steady income with health benefits, etc working in an office environment.
A word to the wise....Steer clear of these alleged sales positions.- Caller: Nilco, Theo Pappas Agency
- NicoleThese people will not stop calling me. I completely deactivated my account on CareerBuilder and removed my number from Monster - unfortunately it's too late because they already have my phone number. They called and left me a message last Friday, June 22, and here's what was said: "Hello, this call is for Nicole, this is just a confirmation call with your attendance on your interview, on Saturday the 23rd of June, please do call me or let me know if there are changes as well as please do email me confirming your attendance on Saturday. Have a great day, bye." There are MULTIPLE things that are wrong with this call. 1) She NEVER mentioned the company once on her voicemail. 2) She NEVER mentioned her name. 3) I NEVER contacted ANYONE about doing an interview and she made it sound like I already set up everything to come in. Obviously, this is their ploy to get you to call back so they can get you to come in. I did not call back and I wouldn't even know who these people are had I not come to 800notes (Thank you everyone for posting about your situations, otherwise none of us would know).
Unfortunately, this story continues. I did not call back because I did not want to talk to anyone about this, and I obviously would never go to an interview I never set up. I received an email on Sunday, June 24 from "Theo Pappas".
I am going right now to click the link to opt out of any more emails from them, and I just pray they stop calling me. And now, today, June 25, I just received another call from them, but no message was left. How funny is it that almost everyone on here that posts about this company gives it a different name? I was told National Income Life in the email, someone else said Pappas Asssociates, and Nilco Insurance...please, don't fall for this.- Caller: National Income Life
- Jess| 1 replyI went just to c what it was about. It is a three step interview for a national life insurance company.
first they give u a survey to fill out about ur self. Then if u pass u move the #2 interview. They make u watch a long video of successful happy employees before they start their group interview/presentation. It reminded me of a pyramid scene. oooo yeah no criminal background check were mentioned however u do have to take and pass a NYS Insurance exam that u have to pay for. so I stopped at group interview 2. Yes, no paid training u the out of work person must pay for everything. LOL- Call type: Non-profit organization

- RLB Lower east side| 1 replyI received a call from the Pappas group this past week( Oct 5 ) The gentleman on the phone informed
me that my resume fit the requirements for a position they are looking to fill. He asked a few questions, then arranged an interview for Tuesday 10-9-12. I asked what type of position and how its paid, all I got was that
the interviewer would answer all my questions on Tuesday. I also Google the name and number and found
it to be an insurance company called NILCO. It was more troublesome that, the office was located in
white stone queens, a train, bus and then a walk through a parking lot to an office. HMMM
STAY AWAY !!

- Joe| 1 replyThank you all for posting your comments on this company. I got a message from them stating that they have "three spots to fill" and wanted to interview me. Three spots equals 20-30 spots on any given day because they interview all year round and have been doing for the past few years. This type of work is very simple - pyramid method. Do the math, the more people they hire each day, the more salespeople they have on each team selling life insurance. Judging by the reviews, they must hire at least fifty people a week.
The person who is supposed to interview me happens to be a manager and just graduated from high school a few years ago. I checked out his facebook and have to say it was one immature page. The timeline is filled with information on how much money he made in a week. I certainly would not want to work with/under/around a person like that.
They are pretty much looking for salespeople to work under each team. If this is your idea of having a "career" then go for it. There are better options out there and it takes patience. And yes, they mainly get people from monster, careerbuider and craigslist.
This is the template they use for everyone who gets invited to come for an interview:
I am glad you responded to our Craigslist ad regarding our mid and senior level management positions. We currently have 3 openings available and are looking to fill them immediately. Let me explain some more history about our organization and then you can decide if you want to partake in our opportunity.
We are one of the nation’s largest supplemental benefits providers for
labor unions, credit unions and association members. What this means to you is
that we work exclusively with unions involving; police officers, fire fighters,
sanitation workers, nurses, security guards, electricians, construction workers
and many more. These members request our services therefore we do not need to
cold call.
We are an international company licensed in all 50 states including Canada, New
Zealand, Ireland and soon to be Italy. Over the past 2 years in this economy we
have had 30% growth and are currently listed as the 33rd fastest growing company
in the country.
At this moment we are going through a major expansion within our New York
operations and are looking to fill a few key management positions. We are
willing to teach the business to a selected group so you can help facilitate our
growth.
I'd like to invest an hour of both our times to meet with you and give you a
little bit more information about our company where we can both go over each
others questions and answers about one another.
Our corporate office is located at 30-50 Whitestone Expressway, Suite 201,
Flushing, NY 11354. I currently have an interview slot Wednesday November 7, 2012 at 10:30am. Compensation is based on background and experience and will be discussed more in detail during the interview. The positions must be filled by the following Saturday. We look forward to meeting you, and hope that you can be a great fit to our company. Please reply back with what time is best for you. - Joe dirtyou replies to Silvia VasquezTheres one ad on flakelist because that idiot couldnt afford to pay for new york state licensing fees must be nice being unemployed. The opportunity allows you to make $100,000 to over $1,000,000+ in your career there. But a u. Successful person like the ones who complain all day and make up excuses not to succeed are the ones who live in the dark and will live with mediocrity there whole life congrats dirt bag
- AnonymI don't appreciate ppl calling me from unknown numbers likw (718)888-9862, they don't answer, then hang up...time to report these ppl & put a stop to it!!!
- daveI do think it's quite humorous that a tele-marketer should get so indignant with me because
I asked a few questions about this 'sales job'. I mean really, she called me!. So if you get a call from The Pappas Agency, either string them along or just hang up. It's commission only and who nows if you'll
actually get paid anyway. Their line is that you'll help union members with their insurance paperwork.
When I asked is this sales or administrative she ( the telemarketer) became irratated, ( I guess I'm not
supposed to know what type of work I'd be doing until I show up for the interview) and stated that she wasn't going to stay on the phone with me. That's fine as I did have other things to do, but honestly I really wanted
to stretch this out for awhile. Their Queens office always seems to have a bunch of candidates milling about
and quite frankly most from what I could see, must have fallen for the pitch and I do not think anyone in their
right mind would take insurance advice from these 'peddlers'. I used to work in that same bldg. so I do speak from first hand knowledge. If you do get a call from them......have some fun with it and make them work a bit.- Caller: Pappas Agency

- annoyedThanks to all of your comments, you saved me from a huge disappointment.
The person who called me, called herself Casey. I thought it was odd that she sounded about 16 years old, uninformed and nervous. She was definitely reading a script. Sounded like [***].
I decided further research was required.
Again, thanks for sharing your experiences.- Caller: 718-502-8087
