- annoymous| 7 repliesCalled me at 8pm, I answered and they hung up immediately....called ID said comenity. They've called me numerous times within the past few days from 5 different numbers. What's the point when they just hang up when I answer?

- Jenna| 3 repliesIt's a collections agancy ! Either your past due on a credit card from a clothing store or something they have called me every hour today
- Call type: Debt collector
- kbd3115 replies to JennaThat is considered harassment and is illegal per terms of debt collection. If it continues they could have to void the debt collection
- BigA replies to annoymous| 2 repliesCommenity is the card issuer for a lot of different companies. As such, they are the actual creditor and are not covered under the FDCPA unless you live in one of the two enlightened states in this country that classify debt collectors the same as creditors.
Why they would hang up when you answered is beyond me if they were calling about a debt. It could be possible that someone is spoofing the caller ID to make it look like that bank is calling. If that is the case, they are using an autodialer and there are no open lines when you pick up so it simply disconnects you
If you have one of the cards that are issued by this bank, you could call the number on the back of the card and ask them what the problem is. Perhaps they did not receive a payment or you forgot one? If it is someone pretending to be them, they can tell you that also. - Rachel| 3 repliesI received many phone calls in a day every hour since the 15th. It will occur at 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., then 12:30 a.m. and resume through out the day on 5 different numbers. I do not answer my phone because I never do, it is a pet peeve that if someone can not leave a message than I will not call them back. I can not call back because I see many numbers and it alarms me. Even if you are late on a payment the thing of it is, these places should contact you and leave a message, not call you 8 times a day. I don't even find professional in business. I do owe little balance on a late payment which isn't something that is going to be out of hand, but still. I get the many numbers and calls too. I just feel strange numbers don't need to be answered and no voice-mail message doesn't get a call back. I just turned my phone on a week ago and that's all it had been since day it came on was 6 to 8 phone calls in a day from various numbers.

- mamabear17 replies to annoymous| 1 replyIt's a number for the auto dialer. If you do have any of those cards it will keep calling you even if you have payment arrangements. It will keep dialing your number until your account is brought up to date. If you don't have a credit card assoc. with them then you should call them to get taken off their list. Someone random person may have given a false phone number when they opened their own account. Not the first time that would happen as I keep getting calls for Anaed Faruuch for my cell phone and I've had this number for 10 years!
- DJI have been receiving calls from 3 different telephone numbers.

By Brandon Lowrey
Law360, Los Angeles (October 02, 2014, 9:56 PM ET) -- A California federal judge on Thursday approved Comenity Bank's nearly $8.5 million settlement with a class of more than 4 million people who received automated calls to their cellphones from the bank over a four-year period, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
Plaintiff Carrie Couser filed suit in October 2012, alleging Comenity Bank called her using an autodialer four to five times per day on her cellphone attempting to collect an alleged outstanding debt owed by her deceased mother.
"Plaintiff does not owe the alleged debt defendant is calling her about and has never provided any personal information, including her cellular telephone number, to defendant for any purpose whatsoever," the complaint alleged.
Class members received calls from the bank between August 2010 and May 26, 2014, according to court documents.
The motion for preliminary settlement approval was filed last month.
About $2 million of the settlement would go to paying attorney's fees, the motion said, and class members would be restricted to claiming for one call per cellphone number, regardless of how many calls they've received.
Each class member would receive anywhere from 98 cents — if all class members submit claims — to more than $32 if just 3 percent or fewer submit claims, the document said.
"Although the TCPA provides for statutory damages of $500 for each negligent violation and $1,500 for each willful violation, it is well-settled that a proposed settlement may be acceptable even though it amounts to only a small percentage of the potential recovery that might be available to the class members at trial," the settlement motion said.
The Comenity Bank deal comes weeks after Bank of America agreed to a historic TCPA settlement.
In that case, a U.S. District Judge in the Northern District of California in late August approved a deal in which Bank of America will pay $32 million to roughly 7 million class members who received allegedly unauthorized automated phone calls from Bank of America regarding mortgage loan and credit card accounts between 2007 and 2013. The class also includes recipients of allegedly unauthorized text messages from 2009 to 2010.
In 2012, Sallie Mae agreed to pay $24 million to settle with a class of 8 million borrowers in Washington federal court who received autodialed calls to their cellphones seeking debt payments.
The case is Carrie Couser et al. v. Comenity Bank et al., case number 3:12-cv-02484, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

I called back and it's a debt collection agency for multiple different stores. I know they are calling me for my Ann Taylor account because I missed last months payment. But to call 9 times and not leave at least 1 message is harassment and very annoying. It's ok though, they can keep calling me until they're fingers start bleeding, I'll pay Ann Taylor directly and that will be that..- Caller: Commenity

- amber rogersThey keep calling me over 20 times a day and calls past 10 at night without saying anything. I finally answered and they asked for me and I said it was and the girl very rudely told me "oh we'll just call back later then" and was pushing buttons in my ear. Sorry but that is a form of harassment and calling me at 10p.m. while I have work the next day and they don't say a word on the phone. Stop harassing me..

I have zero credit card debt, no loans, all bills current or paid in full.
Started receiving calls about a week ago. They call as early as (PST) 6:05 AM, subsequent calls throughout the day up until 9:30PM and all hours on the weekend.
Never leave a message. There should be a law. You block them and they just use a new number.
I refuse to call since I'm not paying for a long distance call. Yes, I. Am registered on the do not call site.
