They left two messages on my answering maching, seems to be a call from a "Peachtree Law" company, did a search and have found many scam/fraud postings about them. They called twice in one day, half hour apart, then called the next morning and didn't leave a message. The first two messages on my machine were exactly the same, word for word, like it was read from a script.

I just received a voicemail from 720-763-9018. They are supposedly a firm called "Peachtree Law."  The male caller yelled the entire message into the phone and gave me no information about why he was calling, so there isn't much incentive there for me to call him back.

I googled "Peachtree Law Colorado" and none of the hits I got showed this number or area code.

Probably a scam.  If they're a legitimate bill collector they can send me a letter.

They are fishing looking for suckers to "help out a family member". DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. One of the things the caller told me is that they "Peach Tree uses the same data base as the U.S. Gov. and the Police!" How the hell they can do that is beyound me...Unless they are????

They called and left a voice message to return the call to Peachtree Law at 800-741-7582, ext 101 and reference a file number.  I called back and the fishing began.  He ask my name which I gave and then asked for my ex-step daughter using the wrong last name.   When I stated I don't know anybody by that name (first and last), he started to threaten me saying that I was now on file and it was my responsibility to get hold of said person.  He did have some information...about the city I lived in, but had the wrong name, and birthday year of my ex wife.  Use extreme caution.

If someone is calling you from a so-called "Law Center" as stated above and are threatening you about a debt you know NOTHING about, be very aware that you have NOTHING to fear.

See the website of the FDCPA (put in place by your government to protect you from these scammers, as well as keeping real debt collectors in line...):
    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...edit/cre27.pdf

They say they access a "police database"... They say you might be arrested... They say you have to "by law" abide in what they are telling you to do... They threaten with any kind of tough talk... ALL WRONG! See section 807...

You want them to cease immediately? Cite (and follow through with) section 809 of the FDCPA...

On the other hand, there are penalties for violating these laws. See section 813. Have a pen and paper ready to log each FDCPA regulation that they violate. Better yet, if it is within your legal right and availability, record the call. When you have these violations logged, turn them into your State Attorney General... GO AFTER THEM.

Awareness is the most effective defense for a lot of things in today's society. Thankfully we do have internet forums to alert our fellow citizens of these facts during these tough times. These predators prey on your fear are hoping for ignorance. Spread the word.

I am a self employed individual who has for years received all kinds of messages, calls, emails, pertaining to these types of scams. Quite frankly I'm sick of it. None of them have fooled me, but quite frankly a lot of them are an annoyance and can waste time if you let them. It's easiest to just hang up on all of them with an abrupt "do not call here again!" However, not everyone can afford to do that, as some really are in trouble with debt and some of these calls may be legit. Therefore, it is good to be well acquainted with the above site, and be prepared to take action of your own. Most often, the real debt collectors can be just as rude and violating of these rights as the scammers. They can ALL be held accountable for violations.

So, good luck people. Fight fire with fire. If almost everyone knew about these laws, these scammers would indeed fade away. Especially because of what can be done according to section 813. Scammer would be busted, and some of the bad apples in the real collection agencies would fold from paying so many fines.

I received a voice mail from these clowns today and the message the woman left is laughable. Here it is:

"This is Megan calling with the Peach Tree Law Center.  There is a matter here in the office and I will need a return phone call today.  My toll free number is 1-800-741-7582 my extension is 148*.  Our phone call is in reference to file ######."

*There was a convenient level of noise along with her terrible voice when she told here extension I couldn't tell whether she said 148 or 118.  Also the background noise sounded like she was calling from a call center not a law office.  ALL of the law offices I have been in are library quiet unless someone is having a heated argument.

Real law firms use secretaries calling on 800 numbers.  This turd was using a cell phone.  My caller ID read 720-763-9018 but you already knew that. hehe

As you can see she did not give the name of the person whom she was trying to reach nor did she leave the number she was calling (I have more than one number ringing the same phone.)  She did not indicate or even hint at what might be this "matter".  The least she could have done is tell her so called law centers specialty.  For example she could have said "We specialize in finding people who have inherited enormous sums of cash from relatives they didn't even know they had." or something like that :-)

THESE TYPES OF CALLS ARE SCAMS.  DON"T GIVE THEM ANYTHING. Not your name or address.  Chances are they are using an auto dialer so if they ask for your phone number hang up.

OH!  Try to remember: Don't say the word "Yes" for any reason.  If they can record your voice saying the word "Yes" they can cut and paste that into any other recording they want.  So try to get into the habit of answering the telephone "Hello" and when they ask if this is "<your name>" say "Speaking" or "This is he/she".  That way they don't have your "yes" recorded.

Sadly, there is a small chance that this pathetic looser is calling people just so they can get on websites like these and see that someone put their name on the internet.  Just the same we need to keep warning people to help cut down on identity theft (one of the most cowardly form of theft).

    I agree with Dee:
"Probably a scam.  If they're a legitimate bill collector they can send me a letter."

I have yet to get notified of a debt without having first received a bill stating what I owed and what it was for.

I have no outstanding debts.  I do wonder if anyone knows an answer for this:

I just recently RE-signed my moms phone up with the do not call list.  It states on their website that calls should stop after 35 days.  Since, these pests have 35 days to stop calling, perhaps they have found a way to hack the "request to be placed on the list" database and are calling those numbers since they are confirmed numbers.

So, if I RE-signed up does it take my number off the DNC list then re-open the 35 day window.  If so that would be a stupid loophole that needs to be closed.  I RE-signed her up because she was getting more calls and I couldn't remember if she had signed up already.  Turned out she had and the DNC telephone sign-up did not indicate her number was already on the list.  I found out from her later.

OH yeah!  I just thought of another BIG tip...

DON"T POST ON THESE TYPE OF SITES THE SAME DAY YOU GET ONE OF THESE CALLS!  Also do not indicate when they called.  Not all voice mail messages are going to numbers that have a person at the other end.  Some of these dirt bags will call and leave a message and then troll these forums to find what day they called someone.  They know you are most likely to post here when the call is fresh and so is your anger.  Then they can look at their calls for that day and narrow down which numbers have people associated with them.

THE MODERATORS SHOULD POST THIS TIP ABOVE THE POST NEW MESSAGE SECTION TO REMIND PEOPLE!!!

Also received a call from this so called "Peach Tree Law Firm" the lady left a very rude message stating that if I didn't call back by that day they were going to persue legal actions... My sister works for a law firm and told me to ask them for a letter stating what it was that I owe, to this date I have yet to receive any letters but the calls still continue... Also found out that they got a hold of one of my bank accounts and were only able to pull out $35.00 after that I called the bank found out that they tried pulling out Larger amounts.... So I had to cancel all of my bank cards and transfer all of my accounts to another account...

This is Peachtree Law Center. They are a collections company for a cash advance company. I have already check their lawyers bar# and everything. They are a legitimate company and I have paid off debt with them and confirmed with the original company the balance was from.
