- Sophrosyne| 7 repliesDear Fellow Posters:
WHY, Why, Why do some of you bother to answer a number that you don't know (because a lot of you will or have)? Why, when you do answer, get mad because it is a scam call? Why do you call back? You get pissed off at receiving these calls, but, you answer or call back to give them a clue that you do have a working number that they can have fun spoofing with you!
Then you get mad at the FCC, the DNC, the phone companies, the government and President Obama for these calls and accuse them of being 'ineffective' or 'a joke' for not doing anything about them.
Understand that the DNC is working or you would be getting calls from any and every LEGITIMATE bank, credit card, charity, medical, loan, department store, and fundraiser you could think of--but, you don't because they are following the guidelines of the DNC.
Just imagine, if most of the spam/unknown calls we all receive would be ignored (resisting the temptation to answer to 'get revenge', so to speak)--it could work wonders, don't you think? Of course, that means that sites like this wouldn't be needed.
Is that such a bad thing?
So, come on, people! Stop answering unfamiliar numbers, don't call back (it's usually a waste of time, most of the time, is it not?), and get on with the parts of your life that you can do something about.
Don't allow spam/crank calls/and the like steal precious time from you--otherwise you are giving them permission to do so.
DO. NOT. ANSWER.
P.S. I know that this will be ignored by most because there will be more posts complaining about these calls.
(Sigh) I tried. :-/- Caller: According to CID from Conyers GA
- AnnoyedReceiver300 replies to SophrosyneI agree about the DNC list. It is great for blocking legitimate callers, but it is useless for scammers. If the line rings, they'll know it's a working number. The phone companies should start a large database to block these pests before the calls come through to our phones. They really should quit ignoring the problem and start an initiative. If they are landlines, they should partner with law enforcement. If they are burners, all they can do it block them after a certain number of people have reported the number. I know with some phone companies you can manually add a black list, but you have to pay for it. They should give us the option to not accept Unknown numbers, and they should crack down on spoofed numbers. I've received calls from my own number a couple of times. There is no way I can block that. I'm not sure if this would require tweaks or a whole new system. The phone system is broken the way it is now.
- AnnoyedReceiver300| 1 replyScam. Phishing for info.

- employee| 1 replyThis phone call is in regards to the affordable health care that is still available to everyone. For the affordable healthcare act. it is not a scam. its from a legitimate company.
- Jessica replies to Sophrosyne| 1 replyGod forbid a number that someone doesn't know calls them and they don't answer and it turns out to be a hospital informing them their mother or child has been in an accident...
People are allowed to answer their phones. And they are allowed to get mad that they are harassed by some scam company. Especially when it is multiple times a day/week. I had to unplug my house phone because of the harassment. Do I know how they got my number? No. I use my home number for my banks, and schools, and work.
Being mad at Obama for it is dumb, yes. But to berate people for getting frustrated with harassment is rude. To berate people for answering their phone, is ridiculous.
I answer my phone to every number because it could be important. We as a people should be allowed to answer our phone whenever we want. So you, person who thinks you are better than everyone else, can take your phone and not answer it all day long. And I hope that person calling is telling you that this is your one and only chance to win 1 million dollars, but because you don't answer, you miss out. - Warfield42 replies to JessicaJessica, what you just said makes your statement pure nonsense. In one breathe you say God forbid it's the hospital or something important and then you say you unplug your phone for the same reason harassment. I'm liking what the preson said, if you don't know the number don't answer. I have caller ID and voicemail if it's important or an emergency they will leave a message. Thanks
- Mary replies to SophrosyneI agree, why answer the phone and get all mad for what? Doesn't mean you have to ignore the phone completely. I google the number first and every time it takes me to this website and not hard to tell it's a scam. It's a sad world we live in. What I do instead on my land line is go back in once the number is checked out, wipe out the caller id name and put in either "scam" or lately I put "Fuk U" spelled just like that. When they call back that is how my phone announces it and sound really defined being spelled that way. It really makes us laugh and no need to look at who it is because who has the time to get mad. We don't have little ears at home so no harm there. I'd rather do this than block the number. They will just call back using a different number. People who have elder parents living by themselves should check their caller id and change to "don't answer" for calls that are scams. For your cell phones get google voice number and give that out to people, doctors, forms, health, ect. Keep your cell phone number for family and friends only.

- LARecd. a call from 770-649-5864 around 1PM , since I am not familiar with the number I did not answer as a policy of mine. Believe these are solicitation calls, calls if from Georgia....
- BLDid not leave a message.
- TerriS replies to SophrosyneDitto!!!! Can I get an AMEN?!!
Couldn't have said it better myself. Don't know the number? Ignore it then block it & move on. If you answer it you've just confirmed it's a good number where a human answers! Way to go, dummy. Then that scammer sells your number to the next guy w/ the next scam & so on. See how this works people?
If we all block the calls maybe a lot of these [***] will go away until they come up w/ a different way to end-round the call block. 😝
