Left voicemail that there is fraudulent activity with my ssn.  Gave a call back number of 203-489-2833 or area code might have been 213 - was hard to understand.  Didn’t say who they were calling for, a call back name, or who they were.

Left a voicemail stating that "A Legal enforcement action has been filed on your social security number for fraudulent activity", Ver batem, I cannot put that use of those terms into a phrase I can comprehend, also stated, "If you must call back please call 203-489-2833" furthermore, the connection was horrible, full of static and background noise, in addition to a very thick foreign accent of unknown origin, that was somewhat hard to understand. No company or caller name was stated in the message.

I just got a call from that number. I thought the number itself was fishy so didn't take the call. I looked it up instead and found this. Thank you so much for letting us know what kind of number this is,  now I can block it.

Waited until I was transferred and a male with a very heavy accent came on the line and said he was an officer and asked how he could help me. I responded by saying "I don't know, you called me" he stayed quiet and just hung up.

I had the same experience, except the return phone number provided was 828 471-7415.  This is part of a scam to try to get your social security number and other information.  I reported it to the FTC and Do Not Call List.  Both the FTC and Social Security Administration have posted fraud advisories about this Scam.

Just got a call from this number saying I should hold on the line to speak to an officer about my social security being misused. I waited and another man answered the phone and asked me if I was "so and so" He stated my husbands name! I didnt respond and he hung up. How in the world did he know my husbands name? My husband has his own cell phone. I understand now that this is a scam, but how did he know our names? creepy. They need to be shut down

Received a call from this number today as well... same verbatim info as what Sandra mentioned below "A Legal enforcement action has been filed on your social security number for fraudulent activity".  Mentioned to call 240.335.2908.  I obviously did NOT call as instructed.  Obvious scam!

Called to say he was Officer Victor Franks with the Social Security Administration and there was a legal action against my SSN for fraudulent activity and as soon as I heard this message I was to speak to into the phone and it would be directed to an agent -

I hung up at that point.  You could hear the call center in the background - even if this was a pre-recorded message.  The accent was not horrible but still very heavy on the foreign country side (india)

Listen to message  I bet this guy thinks he is speaking in good English too....lol

These knuckleheaded scammers don't have a clue how the real SSA works and they are hoping you don't either.
The SSA  doesn't suspend your ssn, file law suits, or issue Arrest Warrants.

Do Not give anyone your SSN!
    Or any personal information.

The current scheme is they say your SSN is involved with a rental car found in southern Texas, with blood & drugs. Next theres some address they say was raided and discovered several bank accounts used for laundering money under your SSN, so they have to freeze your bank accounts and issue you a new SSN, but you have to secure your accounts by getting some gift cards ......pretty bizare "off-the-wall" story, its so hard not to laugh at them.

    • Only a scammer would leave a message telling you "someone" is using your SSN for criminal activities, then try to say your in trouble for something you didn't do!
    • Only a scammer would say "legal enforcement actions".
    • Only a scammer is going to call you and demand you pay them over the phone to avoid an Arrest Warrant, when it doesn't really exist. You would first have to go to Court and disobey a Court Order to get an Arrest Warrant issued.
If an Arrest Warrant was issued, you would have been informed long ago in Court, as a result of failure to comply with a Court Order and then a Sheriff would suddenly show up at your door to serve it, they don't warn you they are coming.
    • Your SSN can't be canceled, revoked or suspended because it is a number assigned to your birth name for Identification purposes, only scammers say it can. It IS your Identity as much as your name is.
    • New SSN must be applied for with a misuse report on the old one and its FREE.
    • Only a scammer asks you to pay using Gift Cards.
