- A| 3 repliesThis is a legit number. It is to Macy's Consumer Protection Department located in Mason, OH. However, when you call the number back you may get a representative from the Arizona call center or their overseas call center. I know because I work for this department.

Just because somebody says this number is "legitimate" or "real" or something similar, Their statements may NOT apply to the call you received!
Yes,- The bad guys can spoof or fake what you see on your caller ID, and they can use "real" phone numbers to make you believe the call was from a legitimate organization.

Read the above again, for understanding! - Some posters in this thread may be shills for a scammy caller

- BigA replies to A| 2 repliesWell of course, we should take your word for it because you "work for this department" and you certainly wouldn't lie about that if you want to make people believe that you were not scamming them. So tell me, if you indeed work for this outfit, then why did you look up their number? Did you forget what it was? Because there would have been no other reason to look up the number and post here.
- CWG40| 5 repliesCommon 800number scam.
The large number of shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.
23 entries in this thread and I count 10 as shill posts.
At a 43 % shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam. At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
These type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.
All with the same type of postings. All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)

- Marcia Jones LoweI received a voice message from a lady stating she was from Macy's credit dept. I was told to call the credit bureau because my Macy's credit card could not be used unless I get my information straighten out with them. I just opened a Macy's charge to purchase a mattress, which will be delivered Tuesday. If I didn't want to call the credit bureau I was to call her back at 888-456-7487.

- AmandaI was given this number through an email because I reported that someone created an account using my email address. I called this number and at first it asked for my credit card number, which I’m assuming is the macys credit card, but I didn’t have one. So I pressed 7 like they said if I didn’t have one and it ASKED FOR MY ENTIRE SS NUMBER. not just the last 4 digits but the whooole thing and they didn’t give me any other option after that. So this number is bogus

- Eve replies to donttrustitThey process ihat is used is a verification service and uses personal information to make sure they are speaking with the legitimate person and not someone attempting to perpetrate fraud. It has nothing to do with a credit bureau.
