Got a call from this number at 10 in the morning. The call was from overseas and stated they had a FedEx package for me from somebody I didn't know at an address I didn't recognize. They wanted my current address but I wouldn't give it to them. He hung up. What's the scam?

They just called my CELL PHONE... I didn't answer and they left a 3 sec message of dead air.  I guess I didn't rate high enough to get the FedEx message.  :)

    dontcall me
I received the same calls as stated above--someone "posing" as Fed-Ex.  They had my home address, cell number, and work #..called me at both.  The person was foreign and said they had a fed-ex package and wanted to know what time I was going to be home.  I thought this was real as I had a REAL fed-Ex pkg being delivered to my work.  I argued with him that it was supposed to be sent to my work as nobody was home & gave my work address.  I was mad at myself for giving out my work address until I realized that they also had called my work & could have asked our receptionist for it without me even answering.   Anyway, I have NO idea who this is, but if it is a scam..it is crazy they have all of my info..home address and my numbers

Hang up-report call 2 the Ph Co&Fed Ex
I received this call at approximately 12:30 this afternoon.  They wanted me to verify a name and address so they could deliver a Fed Ex package.  I don't even live in the same state as the family member they were asking about...  I started asking the caller questions...he said his name was "Bryan" though with the accent - I highly doubt that.  He gave me the call back number of 800-222-5656.  I asked "Bryan" who the package was from - unfortunately, I couldn't understand his answer.  He repeatedly asked me to verify the information.  I ended by asking "Bryan" for his name and number and said that I would get his information to the person in question and he would call him back.  I then tried the 800 number and of course it was no good.

I called my family member and told him what had happened.  Interestingly - they had called his house (in another state - remember) as well and gave the same story.

I suggested he explain to others in the household to NEVER EVER give out any information to a person on the other end of the phone unless you generate the call and trust who you are calling.  For incoming calls I prefer to ask for their name and number and let them know I will pass the message or return the call at a later time convenient for me.  I also suggested he check his credit report (you get a free one from each credit reporting agency per year) to ensure someone wasn't trying to steal his identity... You can never be too careful.

This call showed up on caller ID as "Anonymous Out of Area".  If in fact it was a call from Fed Ex - Fed Ex would have been displayed.  Also, the probability of Fed Ex calling to verify an address is slim to none.

Received call from India, stating they are FedEx and can't find the address appx 2:30PM.  I stupidly said that is my address after she read it off.  FedEx will be stopping by tonight I am told.  Called FedEx, and I am not receiving any packages.  Besides FedEx & UPS come by every day.
The caller ID is 800-222-5656.  When you call back call can't go through.

Got phone call from this number posing as Fed Ex employee with strong Indian accent; then next door neighbor received the same phone call asking about my physical address.  Clearly this is not Fed Ex.  Any idea who is behind this?

Just received call from this number.  Indian accent caller claiming to be Fedex with a confidential package for my father. I asked how he got my number and he said I was listed as the emergency contact (for a package?!?! RIGHT.) Then he wanted me to confirm my father's address. Told him he needs to call back and leave a voicemail with detail info and call back number and I hung up. He never called back.

I don't know what it's about but this has to be a total scam or they are trying to track down the person they called about. Do not answer or just hang up!

"next door neighbor received the same phone call asking about my physical address" sounds like a debt collector using a fake you-have-a-package story to scam info and locate you.

Yes, I think they are using fake package delivery story to scam info on a person. Might be a debt collector.

Yeah me too.  I asked him specifically if he was from Fedex, to which he said yes.  I asked him if he represented a debt collector and he denied that.   I then said "I've been recording this call and ask you again to confirm you are from Fedex and not representing a debt collection agency" - he hung up.

Clearly this is a debt collection agency impersonating Fedex and trying to break federal law - I will report it to the Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).  Sadly, it is probably carefully constructed for maximal plausible deniability claiming India was merely a rogue agent and also that the debt collection agency has no assets.  Pity our congress critters don't do something about creating personal liability on the individuals to pierce the corporate veil.

Got a call this morning from this same phone number.  They knew our address but just could not locate it. Kept telling me to sign for a package at noon.  I kept prying and he hung.  Sounded foreign...Indian.  This was to my cell phone asking for my husband.

Got a call from this number, asking for me by my maiden name (I've been married for 20 years). Person gave a name like Gary Peterson, but accent was Indian. Said he was with FedEx and asked me to confirm sibling's address in another state, which I would not do. He said he had a package that was undeliverable, which I know is hogwash because I often mail things to brother's kids. I asked to speak to his supervisor. He claimed the supervisor would call me back within 15 minutes. I hung up. 2 minutes later, same person called back, asked for somebody by the name of Candida. I said "Who?" He corrected and asked for my husband by full name. I said I would take a message. He hung up.

Pretty sure these calls are from a debt collection agency trying to get a current verified mailing address.

    Caught off guard
On Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 12:05PM, I received a call from an East Indian sounding man who said he was from American Express and they had a package for me from (he named a previous employer). I stupidly gave him my current address. Can anyone please tell me what is going on.The number showing on my cell phone was 800-222-5656. It obviously wasn't from American Express. Who would be doing this, how did they get information about me and why are they doing this?
