DO NOT CALL LIST
No charitable exempt organization in the United States is subject to the Federal Trade Commission's Telephone Solicitation Regulations relating to the National Do Not Call Registry.
However, to have your name and telephone number placed on our internal Do Not Call List in and for any state in which the Association does a public fundraising drive, no questions asked, you may call, toll-free, 1-888-665-9359, or reach us in Washington at 202-736-1725, or call the pertinent State Chapter at its telephone number listed on the State Chapters Page, or email us at DoNotCall@Navyvets.org, If you connect with the Voice Mail and simply say: "Do Not Call," your full name (which should be spelled out slowly), and your full telephone number including area code, it will be done. (Takes about 24-72 hours.) It's as simple as that.- Caller: United States Navy Veterans Association
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Jodes replies to DianaObviously people don't know about how the Do Not Registry works. Calls from charities do not stop and from companies you do business with.
FROM THE FTC (Federal Trade Commission) website:
#
If I register my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, will it stop all telemarketing calls?
No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you’ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls.
#
Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?
Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of “telemarketing.” Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.
#
What about telephone surveys?
If the call is really for the sole purpose of conducting a survey, it is not covered. Only telemarketing calls are covered — that is, calls that solicit sales of goods or services. Callers purporting to take a survey, but also offering to sell goods or services, must comply with the National Do Not Call Registry.
#
My number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. After I bought something from a company, a telemarketer representing that organization called me. Is this a violation?
No. By purchasing something from the company, you established a business relationship with the company. As a result, even if you put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry, that company may call you for up to 18 months after your last purchase or delivery from it, or your last payment to it, unless you ask the company not to call again. In that case, the company must honor your request not to call. If they subsequently call you again, they may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.
An established business relationship with a company also will be created if you make an inquiry to the company, or submit an application to it. This kind of established business relationship exists for three months after the inquiry or application. During this time, the company can call you.
If you make a specific request to that company not to call you, however, then the company may not call you, even if you have an established business relationship with that company.
#
Are telemarketing calls from overseas covered?
Yes. Any telemarketers calling U.S. consumers are covered, regardless of where they are calling from. If a company within the U.S. solicits sales through an overseas professional telemarketer, that U.S. company may be liable for any violations by the telemarketer. The FTC can initiate enforcement actions against such companies.

When I get calls, all I do is tell them I do not make donations over the phone. Usually that is enough to get them to take me off their lists. - chero*

- MelI, too, received a call from 1-800-301-9772, just today (7/06/07 at 11am). I've received only this one call, but was curious as to who it belonged to so I searched online. I happened to be outside and saw on my caller id that I missed their call and no message was left on my machine. I'm on the National Do Not Call list, but apparently that doesn't seem to matter to the caller.

- rickygot a call from 1-800-301-9774 person was rude and hung up on me when I asked him to identify himself. called the # back, states that it's the U.S. Navy Veteran's Association, not an actual person, just a recording that is trying it's best to sound official and want's information regarding pledges left on the maching. Sounds like a scam, may or may not be? Look up the navy veteran's association online and they have 2 phone numbers.. one in Tampa FL and one in Washington D.C. Tried both number's to verify the validity of the 800 call I recieved, but both #'s are recordings. If our government needs donations that badly to support veterans... why can't they answer a phone call with a live person? This is B.S.
- Caller: U.S. Navy Veteran's Association
- Call type: Telemarketer
- JudiLet it go to machine, no message. Don't even look at caller ID any more. All my family and friends know to say something to my machine. Don't have time to run to phone everytime just to find out its some dumb guy scamming for money.
- KevinMe: "Hello?"
<wait 5 seconds>
Them: "Hello? Hello?"
disconnect.
Obviously a computer-dialed call. - StephanieJust got a call from these people. The first man I spoke with was very nice but I told him I won't make donations over the phone and to send information through the mail so I could look it over. He then connected me to some young rude girl that asked me if I was making a $15.00 pledge and when I told her I wanted the info sent to me via mail she said "Whatever" and hung up on me. So I called the number back and got the recording so I left a real nasty message. I am a Navy vet and my husband a Marine vet so I do support the troops, but these people WILL NOT be getting ANY donation from me!

- RoniI received a recent call from the U.S. Navy Veterans Assoc. and would like to make sure the following is correct information before forwarding a check to help our troops. The address is US Navy Veterans Assoc. C/O The UPS Store,#408-VA Bon Air, VA 23235-2423. I would like to know if this is a legitimate address and if someone truly called me from your association.
Please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you,

- richard, cw4 ret.Totally legit group. Totally polite caller. They are not "part" of the Navy any more than the Navy League is, or the U.S> Army association is part of the Army. They say so online on their extensively informative site navyvets.org. These groups are set up to support the military's mission, not because they are part of the government. I find that totally legit.

- Clark Gable| 1 replySince all telemarketing calls are recorded, you must specifically ask to be removed from their list by saying "REMOVE ME FROM YOUR LIST" Also mail any forms they send through the mail back with a written statement “REMOVE ME FROM YOUR LIST”

- csI received a call from the number 248-351-5662, said hello twice and then a female asking for me, but sounded like she was on something, so I hung up. Did a little more checking because I did say I would pledge $20.00 to the United States Navy Veterans Association, called their number on the form I'm to send back (1-800-301-9772)and this number has been disconnected. Go figure another scam!!
- janeMy mother is a senior on limited income. My dad now deceased was in the Navy 43 yrs. They play on the Navy Veteran ploy so my mom has agreed to contribute. I have found the mailings and try to catch them before she writes or mails a check. I have tried and also mail their their invoice with no check back to them telling them to quit calling. she is on a do not cll list. She has gotton severaqlk other invoices that look very much the same with different organization names in them.
