We recently received a letter, purportedly from Discover Merchant Services (for our credit card processing account) that supplies 1-800-317-5410 as the number to call to provide the information requested in the letter.

We received this as well.  Did you find out what it was?  We are hesitant to provide the kind of info they are asking via fax.  It seems strange that it would come from Discover addressed to us without the Merchant ID already.

I got the same letter. I think it's a fake. I have 6 locations and this only came to 1 of the locations. It doesn't make any sense.

I received the same letter from "Discover" and it is FRAUD.  I called our merchant account people and they verified that nothing was sent to us from them and they also said with the info they are requesting on the letter is enough to make a (and I quote) "really nice Christmas for somebody".  DO NOT fill out the paper and DO NOT FAX or Call the number.  It is Fraud!  Also the fax number I did a little research on and it is from a Lawyers office in OH but the lawyer is now deceased.

It's not a scam. The posts on this page caused me to waste half my morning, on hold with with my CC processors, confirming that it is not a scam. Do your homework, folks (and do it correctly), before letting paranoia run rampant.
