I received a voice mail message that said that a suspicious amount had been charged on Amazon.  This is the number they left to call back.  I searched my Amazon account and did not find anything that looked suspicious or that was for the amount they quoted.  I believe this is a scam.  The message was not complete so I did not hear a company name but they claimed this call back number was Amazon Customer Service.  It is not.  Nor is it the CS number for the credit card I use for Amazon.  Beware.

Amazon doesn't call about "suspicious" orders. They don't care. If you place an order, they process it. They don't call to confirm you made it.

I received the same message as everyone else here.  I got on Amazon and had a chat session.  They assured me this is a scam. I handed over this number and the Massachusetts number it seems to have come from.

I received this message as well and checked like you did, no Amazon activity on my account and that number they said to call was not an Amazon customer service number.

I received the same message but I called the number as my son was pursuing a phone that morning. The background noise was so loud I could not hear the man clearly, add in his thick accent. I realized it was a scam & told him that. Then hung up.

I called Amazon ... the rep called the number and verified that they pose as Amazon, but are NOT Amazon ... neither the number the call came from, nor the number to call is an Amazon number. The call back number is 800-317-6732.

Here is the email that I received from Amazon following my call with them:

    Hello Bill,

It was my absolute pleasure assisting you today

Although some departments at Amazon.com make outbound calls to customers, we'll never call you asking that you disclose or verify your Amazon.com password, credit card, or banking account number. Such information should only be submitted when completing an order on Amazon.com, registering to sell on Amazon, contacting Amazon.com directly, or when making updates to Your Account or Seller Account areas.

If you receive a suspicious call, or encounter any other uses of the Amazon.com name that you think may be fraudulent, please don't hesitate to report it here:

    www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/report-phishing.html

(Even though the form is for email, it can also be used for calls.)

If you ever respond to a suspicious call, email, or visit a forged website and enter your Amazon.com login and password (or any other personal information), unauthorized individuals may have collected that information; we recommend that you update your Amazon.com password immediately. If you provided financial information, you may want to contact your bank or credit card provider.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

I received a call from the same 800 number as above and decided to have some fun with them.  I blocked my caller ID and returned their call, telling me how grateful I am for their help since I worked for the District Attorney's Office fraud unit. The agent immediately disconnected the call.
