I recieved a call from a man who claims he is from AMRHOMELOANS MORTGAGE. I asked him if he was legit. He claims he was and gave me the 1-800-424-8189 #.
I called that # and all I got was a tone sound then it hung up. Also look up 1-214-270-1696 this is the same person. asking for personal information. Heavy accent asian man.

Mortgage Solicitation

Received a call also from a many with a heavy accent. Said he was from Home Loan Services and was asked for personal information to qualify for new FHA program.

i received a similar call today- same description of the individual offering Federal Home Administration loans as a representative of AMR home loans

I just recieved a call from the same person.  I don't think he is legit.

yep asked a bunch of credit report crap then wanted my social. I obviously didn't give it to hime

Not only did he have an address that I Haven't lived in for 7 years, he has a spouse that I haven't had in the same length of time..

He got a bit pissy when I told him I had to go.

Wow, I did not think there would be people who would complain about them.
I just refinanced my home with them and it was the best process ever.

I was a little worried at first but went ahead with it anyways, and who knew I would get the best loan with them? I shopped around and they beat everyone with their first offer.

I received the same call today.  AMR Home Loans is actually "Smart Funding Corp." d/b/a AMR Fundings (http://www.smartfundingcorp.com/), (http://65.248.36.75/amr/index.htm) with an address at:

They are a self-described "aggressive mortgage company" (http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/rej/465365093.html) that in 2006 obtained financing from the Export-Import Bank of the United States for a call center system in India.  (this explains the heavy accents -- http://www.exim.gov/article.cfm/985AA5C3-DBF6-0254-D0B3C0405CED97BE/).  Their call center spoofs the numbers of call centers in the United States so that the recipient's caller ID shows up with a U.S. phone number or "Unavailable ID."  (See also https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-214-270-1696).  They use old mortgage data for their caller database, their Indian telemarketers use fake American names such as "Daniel Parker" and "Mack Logan," and they do not follow requests to be placed on "do not call" lists.  I must have received 500 calls from them in the past year.

Is their activity illegal?  What can I do about these calls?

I just received a phone as such at my workplace.  The number on the caller ID showed 818-456-1234 but toll free as they gave 800-424-8189.  The first number (818) has been disconnected, the toll free number is always busy when you try to call.

You must think the rest of us are stupid, I'd bet good money you work for one of these companies that take afvantage of desperate people.
