Yes, PHH is a legitimate lender. They service my mortgage as well. However I have got a call from this number any messages never left. At other times I get a call from PHH and messages are left. This must be the difference between a US based representative calling and a contractor calling.

    Not Late
This is PHH Mortgage. I called the number on their website to verify they were trying to get in touch with me. She said that it was just a courtesy call to tell me they hadn't received my payment yet. They should be leaving voicemail messages however. She also told me that they shouldn't have called today because she could see my payment was at the PO Box awaiting pickup. Payment isn't considered late until the 16th. Annoying!

This is a scam if you know your mortgage is not late. You know who your lender is and can call them directly. Do not give out or confirm your information. Call your lender directly, get the callers id and name call your lender and confirm information.

You say -- absolutely correctly -- "Anyone who automatically goes for your SSN without properly identifying themselves first is a scam."  But now I am curious: If you know this is a scam, why go through all the trouble you did and spend all that time on the phone, calling these crooks back?  Are you a cop?  An investigator for FCC?  Or are you a masochist who gets a thrill torturing himself?  I'm just wondering!

Dontworryaboutmyname posted on 14 Apr 2014 and as much as I agree with you, that person will not see your reply or provide an answer. Some people just like to "vent" and think sharing their dumb idea is worth wasting more of their time posting about it.

Regardless of why they did it almost 4 years ago, they took the time to provide valuable information for others.  Something you obviously have not done in your worthless post.

They called because they didn't receive my mortgage payment (which I verified with my bank, and the check wasn't cashed).  I mail in a check every month and the USPS must've lost it.  The reason I mail a check is because they charge you a fee of >$7 for every payment you make through their system and >$17 to make a payment over the phone.      They really should leave a message when they call instead of just calling twice a day, every day.

I wanted to add... do not give out your social security #!  You don't need to.  I didn't provide it and she looked up my account with my name, phone #, and last 4 digits of my ss# without a problem.

Multiple calls - I answer one and the (ESL) person said they were from PHH Mortgage - asked for me by name, then wanted me to tell them my full name - I said I was not about to give them my name in my voice so they could try to steal my identity and then hung up.

Why are you looking for advice from someone who posted here 5 years ago? Expecting them back? Maybe you should be contacting your mortgage company at a known published number?

Also got a call from this number. it IS PHH mortgage services. This company just took over for Ocwen Mortgage service and the loan was transferred so if you have/had a mortgage with Ocwen this may be  legit call.

You see there is a major flaw with your "it's legit" post.  Something someone like you would not know about.  When a mortgage gets sold and/or transferred to a new lender/mortgage service company you get letters in the mail.  Two of them as a matter of fact.  One from the original company and one from the new company giving you instructions on how to make your payments, etc.  This is mandated by law and those letters have to be mailed within a certain time frame as well.  So if you were to get a call (what for?) then you would know who the call was from and why they called.  Makes me wonder why you are really here since you obviously claim to know who called and why.

PHH mortgage, calling incessantly to harass me about the "opportunity" to refinance my mortgage. I've blocked multiple phone #s from them. It doesn't matter how many times you tell them you aren't interested, they keep calling all day long, every day. This  harassment should be illegal.

Harassment,  PHH accepted a short sale agreement with client and agent.  However, still
harass me ,to pay mortgage  when payments have been made.  They are stalling on the deal.
I have been under the physician care (cardiologist) for years.  Decided to get realtor ,
to handle the sale.  Each time ,the realtor and I
have tried getting  PHH, to complete the sell,
I am given calls and letters by them refusing to
accept the Short Sale.  They even threaten to make me, pay by getting an injunction... lf I file
    bankruptcy.
