I got a call from these guys this morning, guy with Indian accent saying his name was Peter. Told me the same thing, that there was an error message from my computer and he was calling to help me fix it. He asked for the serial number on my computer, which I did not provide. I did not believe it, took his phone number, it was 800-453-1210. The onscreen message was a local number.

my son was playing an on-line game that suddenly crashed.  Right after that, he received a phone call at our home #, which I have no idea how'd this company would get that, but anyway, a man stating that he was from the manufacturer's service department of Windows and that he could see that the computer with ID #..... had many errors  and a Trojan virus.  He asked for the computer's IP address, which my son game to him.  He walked my son through how to find and confirm these viruses.  He showed my son something that he believed were viruses on his computer then the caller  said that for $100 they'd take care of the problem. (By the way, they were not viruses)  My son called me at work while he still had the guy on the phone.  I told him to not give him anymore info and that it was a scam and to get him name and number before he hung up.  The man said he was from Spring Technologies, service department and provided the phone # of 800-453-1210. He said his name was George Matthews.

This is the number used by some very slick scammers, totally fraudulent
I am a senior citizen who uses computers  but am not techno literate.  I am careful:  I do not open strange e-mails and do not purchase with my credit card online.  ever.  But I got scammed: after I received several calls about some hacker trying to get into my computer (PC) and my laptop was disabled by a blue screen claiming "RL32.exe" problems, and then some fake "malware" company charged fake charges on a credit card.  In this context, I started receiving calls from "Ray Shih"  about security problems on my PC reported to "Windows."  I eventually took the call ; "Ray" said he worked for "Windows" and that "Windows" had received alerts that my computer had been "hijacked" and all my confidential financial data was compromised.  I was shocked and let him take over my computer; at the end of two hours of manipulation he said he had fixed the security and I had protection "for life," and gave me a license number  - - then revealed that he did not work for Windows but had a contract with Windows and charged me $399 for fixing all the security problems on my 3 computers, using the name of SpringTechno Solutions and gave me 800 453 1210 if I had any further problems.  When I retrieved my laptop, nothing had been changed or repaired, there is no answer at this phone number and I (finally) googled this company.  I got scammed and have reported the fraud and alerted all my banks and other financial  companies.

Internet security 101:  Never allow anyone you do not personally know, access to your computer.  Period.  There's no way some one would know anything about your computer's operation unless you gave them access.

How could you fall for this?  Scam's been around for years.

    Axiom:

If anyone with an Indian accent cold-calls you and ( 1)  threatens you or ( 2)  offers you something,
you know it's a scam,   So--  hang up immediately and block the number.

Nothing against Indians or [***]; that's just the way the world is right now.

    Corollary

Never wire  anyone money if you do not know them personally.

I used Spring Techno Solutions Fire Protection Systems to install a full fire sprinkler system throughout our house. Simon and his foreman Eric were a pleasure to work with, always professional, knowledgeable and responsive. They had a great rapport with the local fire department which was really helpful in making sure the work would pass inspection without any issues. In the course of our remodeling project, we've had to deal with more than a few shady contractors but I'm happy to say these guys were one of the very few that weren't. I knew I could trust them to do what they said they were going to do and more - even better no surprise charges or change orders at the end of the job.

And they have 4 complaints already.  They are not listed as an Arizona Corporation or foreign corporation even though they list and Arizona address.  That would mean that they are operating illegally in that state.  they are registered in Colorado with a Colorado address even though they don't have an office there.  http://www.bizapedia.com/co/SPRING-TECHNO-SOLUTIONS.html
