I misdialed USAA bank and dialed this number 1-800-531-8772.  They LIED and pretended to be from USAA and said they were going to send me a free $100 gift certificate from Wal Mart.  Then they started in on their social engineering and phising for info.  They are frauds...watch out.

I misdialed USAA bank by dialing 18005318772. They pretended that I had won a cruise as a loyal customer of USAA, then proceeded to try to get my credit card information to book the cruise. When I expressed concern about sharing that information over the phone and wanting more information about winning something I never signed up for the person became annoyed and quickly ended the call.  I only stayed on the line as long as I did because I did not realize I had misdialed at first. Watch out for this scam!

I also accidentally dialed 1-800-531-8772 and was told I won a trip to The Bahamas for 2.  I was then asked what state I was calling from and as soon as I said I was in Guam, they hung up on me.  I guess they're unable to process fraudulent international transactions.  I'm glad they hung up on me because I don't know if I would have realized it was a scam right away since I thought I was calling the correct number.  Please beware USAA Members!!!

This also happened to me. They claim they will send you an email package with all the "reward information" : they will not. They pretended to be from USAA, who I trust, and I was ripped off. It is a total scam, and they are LIARS.

This JUST happened to me, also dialing the number on the back of my USAA credit card.  I picked up on it being a scam (same "win a $100 'credit voucher'" lies) very quickly & told them nothing, but watch out if you're trying to dial USAA (1 800 531 8722, NOT 1 800 531 8772).

Same experience as others. I gave them my info and then realized I wasn't talking to USAA so I quickly called USAA and canceled the debit card so they couldn't scam me.

    As Homer Simpson says, "DOH!!!"

Today I accidentally mis-dialed the USAA 800 number by dialing 800-531-8772

I got a series of automated “offers” and could not get out of the offer-loop so I hung up and pressed redial noting my original dialing error.

I Googled ‘who is 8005318772’ and came across this web discussion which is full of USAA customers that have been scammed for at least the PAST SIX YEARS:

How can USAA not cure this deceptive, fraudulent practice once and for all.

Although, they didn’t get my USAA credit card number because I didn’t fall fortheir phishing scam, these crooks now have my home telephone number because I dialed their 800 number accidentally.  They can also sell my home number to lord knows how many other criminals.

I’m shocked and dismayed that USAA hasn’t found a way to shut this down permanently.

I got a call from ussa today . I was on the other line so i called them back . They insisted on getting my account number or i could simply give them my social security number . I told them i never heard of them . They wanted my name too . They said i must have an account with them as they don't call people unless they have an account . " i must have a loan or credit card " with them , " maybe i filed a claim with them "
well i didn't fall for it . They did not get my name or my social security number  & because i don't have an account , i can not give them an account number .
I asked to be placed on their " do not call list "
if they call again , i will block their number !!!
Never give out your social security number  .

Had you gotten the name correct you could have easily looked them up as they are a very well know credit union that serves people in uniform (Army, Navy, etc.).  You could have then called them up using a known, published phone number to find out what is going on.
