5hey called and left a voice mail.
They stated they were from Aetna insurance.When I returned the call, woman requested  date of birth and street Address.She hung up,when I REFUSED.

They called saying they were from Aetna Insurance and wanted me to verify that I'm who they are trying to reach by giving them my personal information, such as my date of birth and member information. I asked them to verify my month of birth and the last 4 digits of my member number. She would not. I requested her name and phone number so that I could validate who she was and her company. She did provide the information and it appears to be legitimate, that being said clearly, Aetna Insurance needs to develop a better process for contacting its members.

Same responses to the number.  Called today and said she was Leanna Mosey(?) a registered nurse for Aetna.  Asking for return call to 800 551 2289 at extension 860 902 6078.  NOW, how stupid does she assume me to be.  Never had a 9 digit extension before.  Did a little research, call can from Matrix Medical and this "nurse" was at home making calls.
Called Aetna and the "helpful" call taker at Aetna transferred me to Matrix Medical!!  All I asked her to do is take my number off any call lists they provide to third party callers.
Not needing anyone to come to my house and ask me useless questions at any time at the moment.

All of the insurance companies do it and a lot of them use Matrix.  I had to threaten them with a lawsuit before they would stop calling me.

Called and left a message to call her back, said she was with Medicare at 800-551-2289, ext 860-808-3789,  I did NOT call back.

Bull. All you have to do is ask to be put on the Do Not Call list and guess what? They won’t call.

She said she was a nurse at Aetna and wanted to review health information and said she would call back next week and then left this number and a long extension.  I already have my new card.

I been on the do not call list for years, its just a bunch of bull, they keep calling, had even one guy just laugh when I said I was going to report him.

The list does not apply to companies that you have an existing business relationship with. This company is calling on behalf of your insurance company.

She called and left a message. Could not understand most of what she said. Did not call that toll free number. She should go home and get her friggin' shinebox!

The 1800-551-2289 number with the 860 extension is given in case members don’t have free long distance on their phones. If you pay attention the 860# is the telephone number they’re calling from. It’s legitimate. If anything, ask for their Aetna employee ID number and call the number on the back of your card to validate.

You logic is flawed ... 800 numbers have alway been toll free.

While that is true, it was already implied in what "Regina" posted, which you either did not read or did not properly comprehend.  She was referring to the posts by "Done" and "Mary Gregory" that stated they were told to call back and request a 10-digit "extension" (that was actually a phone number).  Those previous posts were made during the period of the declared COVID-19 Public Health Emergency when many companies had to send their employees home and have them telework.  Most likely those "extension" numbers were VoIP lines provided to the employees, on the same network that supported the 1-800 number's call centre before the Emergency.

Thank you for explaining that!! The 1800-551-2289 is TOLL FREE OBVIOUSLY!! But the long extension “860-***-****”is their actual phone number. So, for people who don’t have cellphones or don’t have free long distance, the toll free number is given (which, if you call, it’s Aetna, and it’ll ask for you to enter the extension). If you have FREE long distance, you would simply call the 860# back. Aetna’s corporate office is out of Hartford, Connecticut and so is the 860 area code.
