I am the customer service Manager for Sunstar, and I was told there were comments here. I would like to respond. If you received our fax in error, you only need to call and be deleted. We give confirmantion numbers for every deletion, and we do remove the numbers.
Mr. CM, we received your complaint, and we gave you confirmation numbers if I am not correct. Also, we explained to you that you received this in error and we do have many clients in your area. OUR company DOES NOT directly send any faxes, and we hire an outside advertising agency that handles our ads and notices. We send only to people and companies that have opted in to receive our materials and advertising. We do have our advertising company send random faxes to CANADA only. That is NOT illegal and we follow and abide by every law and statute. WE have many clients across the US and Canada and we are HUMAN, if you received a fax from us for some off reason, check with your co workers or anyone there that might have opted in to receive information, or it was legitimately sent to you in error. We apologize and we always make sure your name and numbers are wiped off our system.

Jay Hammond's points are absurd.  If you Google his name and "travel scams" you will find that he spends a great deal of his time responding to complaints from customers as well as those, like me, who never wanted anything to do with his company but still lose toner and paper to his unsolicated faxes.  There is no possibility that my fax number was believed to have been a Canada number and he uses the usual bull excuse that it is a third party sending out the faxes, as if this is being done without his consent.  I never call the numbers to have my fax removed, as this just confirms to the lawbreakers that the fax number is valid and they then sell it to other illegal marketers. I have nothing to do with companies that knowingly break the law and his argument that we should simply contact the same people who are breaking the law to request that they stop is specious. It never ceases to amaze me how unapologetic people are about sending junk faxes.

Mr. Hammond please read my post. Your marketing company is faxing to peoples homes! My number is listed ion the DO NOT CALL LIST and I never heard of your company. Either you are misinformed or knowingly breaking the law intentionally. Oh and by the way...I'm not in Canada either.

S-Star fax representing 800.592.2140 claimed I was a past client, friend or family.  False on all accounts!  That I had requested the information. NEVER.  A search of the internet revealed S-Star is not a member of the Orlando, FA BBB and the BBB there has received numerous complaints about the company.
These junk faxes invariably interupt a teaching session or meeting when a legitimate fax is expected.

I do live in Canada and receive these faxes on my personal fax machine.  I have never asked for these faxes and have tried on numerous occasions to have my number deleted from their list.  I have called the automated number to have my number removed.  No confirmation number is given.  I have talked to customer service reps on three separate incidents.  I provided one rep with my number to be removed and then asked to speak to someone incharge to discuss these unsolicited faxes.  He hung up on me instead saying that he wouldn't pass on the call.  No confirmation number given.  I called back to hopefully speak to someone more civilized only to get the same rep.  He told me that if I called again he would ensure that I got even more faxes sent to my number.  Six tries to remove.  Not one confirmation number and still receiving faxes.  Mr. Hammond, if you try to come up with some excuse that it is my fault, you are just proving how crooked your company is.  Just because the currently laws might not say it is illegal to send to Canada, it doesn't make it morally right to do so.

We have been receiving these faxes for four years after multiple attempts to have our voice number removed from their listing.  I have called the voice line many times and they argue with me and then ask for my number and say they will take care of it.  I have to shut off our phones during the day to avoid this company waking up our son from his nap every morning.  To the company:  We receive these faxes at work and some people have actually thought of booking through you.  I will ensure they are aware of your "customer service".

I have been trying for over 3 months to have our fax number removed, everytime I call the removal phone number it says that the number has already been removed.  I have never been given a confirmation number for the removal.  You are wasting my time, paper and ink and I am more than pissed off for having to deal with this.

    Mr. Hammond

I live in Canada, I've received numerous faxes from your company and I have called numerous times to have my number removed - BUT I am still receiving them. When I call to complain that despite asking to be removed from your distribution list, the person hangs up on me.

I tried calling the 1-800 number that is to be used to remove me from the database - tono avail.

I was given a number: 918.75 one time when I asked to be removed, but I am still getting calls.

At no time whatsoever have I opted to receive any advertising ot promotional material by fax.

I believe that when a person asks to be removed from a list, and that company gives the illusion that the number is being removed and yet faxes continue to come, is illegal or at the very least immoral.

    ready for a fight
I too have been attacked by relentless faxes from this company.  The removal number and confirmation number systems do not work.  I was subjected to verbal abuse from the S-Star representative on subsequent attempts to remove my number.  I have unlisted my number, subscribed to every do not call service my provider has, filed a complaint with my provider and have documented everything. This company does not abide by the laws but rather sends faxes as "Private Caller", "Unlisted Number", ("111)111-1111", etc. And for your information Jay, it is illegal to randomly target companies in Canada - check the CRTC regulations. Perhaps it is time for a class action suit. Better yet, does anybody know Jay's personal number so we can fax him "friendly" reminders at 2am to have our numbers de-listed?

You can also file a complaint with the FCC online at:

    http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints_tcpa.html

Let's shut these scammers down.  We have received multiple junk faxes at our company from these guys, called to be removed many times, to no avail.  If we all start filing complaints online the FCC will bring pressure to bear on these guys.

Yep, same thing here. Got many faxes & called to be removed from the list. Now their system says "this number has already been removed." ... still getting those faxes though. How do we get their fax # so we can send them junk mail and use their toner?

    S-Star or their fax contractor do not process their unsolicited fax advertising in accordance with the communications regulations of any juridiction (re: Canada CRTC Order 2001-193 / USA US Code Title 47 Sec 227(a)(2)(B)). {Quote from above -Mr J.Hammond: "We send only to people and companies that have opted in to receive our materials and advertising. We do have our advertising company send random faxes to CANADA only. That is NOT illegal and we follow and abide by every law and statute."}

How I usually handle these unsolicited uses of my office equipment is as follows:
    1.  Issue a quote to the sending company for use of the office equipment (ie. fax machine).  I use the local hotel rate of $1.25 per page and a minimum 1 hour charge for processing (our hourly rate is $90). So, a single page fax is $91.25.
    2. If I recieve another fax from the sending company, I issue an invoice for the quoted amount.  Since they sent another fax they must have accepted the quote.  I even give them terms (Net 15).
    3. I send an over due notice at 30 days.
    4. At 45 days over due I file a claim in small claims court.
    5. I go to court.  I win every time!  I get a judgement for the quoted amount and costs.  I put a lean against the sending company (This really messes with thier credit rating or an active line of credit.).
    6. I receive really nasty calls from the sending company (which I record) and use if I have to file for threats.

You are not sending these faxes in error.  You are intentionally sending them out.  I also receved one.  When I call your people they act as though it is normal business.  They know you are junk faxing.

I'm also submitting my complaint as above as a member to the class action suit.

This is an update of my post of 8-3-07. Thanks to all who have added their comments to Jay Hammond's posting in response to mine. I had not re-visited these postings until today, which I did because I just saw the report by BBB of Central Fla. (www.orlando.bbb.org) of the 10-26-2007 Indiana Attorney General filing suit against these folks on behalf of Indiana residents for 129 reported recent junk faxes. (Google 800-592-2140 and it will come up quickly) Lots of "legitimate errors" for one state, aren't there? Yes Mr. Hammond, your boss did give me a removal confirmation number, about a month before I got another junk fax from you.
