This number is one digit off of the numeric translation of 1-800-MEDICAR[E] (1-800-633-4227[3]). The word MEDICARE is actually eight digits, not seven, so if you miss the second 2, you dial this number  When you call this number, you get a sales pitch in which they want to send you a "Free" emergency monitoring device.  The pitch says that the call is being recorded so I'm sure it's some kind of a scam to take advantage of elderly people who are trying to get in touch with the Centers for Medicare & Madicaid Services and mistranscribe MEDICARE. That's how I got them.  Fortunately, I realized what was going on within a few seconds and hung up before they got very far. That's also the reason I didn't get the name of the company. I can imagine what would have happened if I had continued to listen. Shame on them for, deliberately I'm sure, disguising themselves as Medicare in order to take advantage of the elderly!

Misdialed this number trying to get to Medicare.  They’re clearly some sort of scam.  After calling back a few times , they changed their greeting to a fake telephone error message stating, “This number cannot be reached from your area.”  But calling the same number from a different phone, works just fine…

They do that so that people cannot harass them by calling incessantly.  Since they are using an 800 toll-free number, they get to see every phone number that calls them (even if the caller blocks their Caller ID information), so they can detect if someone calls multiple times.  If they detect the same number more than a set number of times, the call is directed to the message you heard instead of an operator.

Far a few calls, and then you will receive the message just like you did with your other number.
