I missed the call and no message was left. When I called back it immediately asked me to enter the PIN I wanted to use, not even a company name was given first. I didn't stay on the line long enough to find out what it was about.

a woman called my husband twice from this number. The first time he ignored it and the second time he answered and she asked is this...and said his full name  and when he said yes she hung up.  He tried calling it back as did I, and it would just ring and ring.

Plain and Simple, we have a rule at home regarding unknown callers and unidentified numbers: let the phone ring until the answering machines takes over and if it is a legitimate call/caller... then he/she will leave a VM otherwise is crap!.

Eventually this [***] get tired when no one answers their calls.

I got a call from this number twice within a couple of hours which is annoying but it turned out to be my student loan company calling since I had switched universities and they needed to correct my information so my loans would be deferred.

This number has been calling me for months. They say it's my student loan company - except when I asked my bank about it, they said don't respond - loan people will contact you another way. I reported the number to my bank today, we'll see what happens. I informed the lady from this number that my bank kept me very up to date with my loans, and she said "I am terminating this call and putting a note on your account as non-compliant." Pretty rude if they want my money.

this number as well as the same number with 888 instead of 800 both called me. the 888 # apparently asks immediately for SSN.  pretty sure this is a scam

    Dude guy
This is a scam. I only had a relatively small loan with Chase and I paid it off as soon as I left school. However, these people are calling me telling me my loan is due and are asking me for my social security number. Do not give them any of your information.

I called Chase from the number listed on their website (for student loans), 1-800-487-4404, and verified that the information provided to 1-888-640-3806 was correctly updated in their system.

I asked Chase what information was updated, and they correctly identified the two pieces of information that had changed. Chase also verified that I my account was to be contacted, so the initial phone call was warranted.

Chase was not able to verify the phone number. So I cannot verify who I spoke to, but they have access to update my account. However if you consider a man-in-the-middle attack, the purpose is to eavesdrop on information without either side knowing. So the information provided to 1-888-640-3806 could have been used to poll for information from Chase, then the changes forwarded back to Chase.

You can also consider an attack where the number 1-888-640-3806 simply redirects you to Chase, while recording the conversation. I called 1-888-640-3806 again and asked them a few questions, and the CSR said they can only recommend calling the phone number listed on the Chase website.

If the phone number still exists, and is used for the same purpose, then this is most likely not a scam, but a poor way of assuring security to customers. The original phone number that was used to call was 1-813-584-3013, and this number is also still used for the same purpose.
