I received a call from 800-642-0469 at 7:08pm on July 5th. That is a sunday of the July 4th weekend. I do not think the bureau personnel would be working on a holiday weekend let alone on a sunday niht. This is definetly a scam.

6:35 pm, 8/3/15: ID'ed herself as Stacey from census bureau. Said she was calling re an address on Terazzo Dr., San Jose. Definitely not this address. She wanted this address. I asked what census survey she was calling about. She said she could not give that info. I told her because I didn't know who she was I was not giving her this address. She said "OK I'll put you down as refused" & hung up.

No ID... no message left.  Now blocked.  Received two other calls last week and the ID showed Census Bureau with 812-218-3144; first call left message to call back an 888 number and reference a five-digit number; I don't think so.  Second call was two days later and left no message.

This number is most definitely the National Processing Center (NPC) for the U.S. Census Bureau.  https://www.census.gov/npc/contactus.html   You do not have to provide them with any info over the phone.  They will send you a letter or direct you to their website.  I received forms to fill out and have been getting followup calls from this number.

This number called on a Friday at approx 2:31 and left a message on my cell. She claimed to be with the US Census, and she could barely speak English. She demanded I call them back at a different number 800-972-5650 and gave me a case number.
I too filled out the paper that came in the mail. I now see this is a scam :(

You may have received a message from 800-642-0469 but the automated caller asks you to call them back at 888-595-1328 and refer to a case number they give you.  Definitely a scammer.

I had a Census taker come to my door off and on for 3 weeks, wanting a 20 minute interview. I finally got on line and found my address as a business. Today i got a call asking every question about my health, living quarters, income, job and every intrusive question possible. It was explained to be a survey to inprove health care, schools, and housing in my small town area. I think the city and county government has it covered. Personally I think it's a scam, because the government has all our information anyway..I kept directing the interviewer to other angencies for the info..Interviewer was language handicapped

i did call them back and repeated the i.d.  "case #...." Someone named Minerva (foreign sounding accent) said they were the Census Bureau & she's worked there for 5 yrs. That I had contacted them about "come fly with me..." Sorry lady - I'm not that stupid. our U. S. Census Bureau has more work than they can handle. She also said they were in Tucson, AZ.
I do hope all people contact 800notes.com and share truths, so sick of scammers. May our Government of this beloved United States figure out a way to keep them all from harrassing us. The News Media recently stated they are working on it but calls still come. And I have no patience with them any longer for ringing my telephone & invading my privacy. Maybe AT&T would do something if we all took out our house phones for like 6 months or a year? Hmmm...money rules.

The U.S. Census Bureau has three contact centers (Hagerstown MD, Jeffersonville IN, and Tucson AZ) that support more than 800 interviewers and 6 Regional Offices (Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia) that support more than 9000 Field Representatives.

Since our nation is so diverse, the Census Bureau employs interviewers and Field Representatives who reflect the people.  In the contact centers alone, the Census Bureau supports interviewers bilingual in more than 17 languages.

U.S. Census Bureau interviewers and Field Representatives work many varied shifts, including many Federal holidays (such as Columbus Day) and weekends.  If you are wondering if the call is legitimate, ask for the name of the caller, the office he or she works for, and the telephone number for that office.  The Census Bureau has three contact centers (Hagerstown MD, Jeffersonville IN, and Tucson AZ) that support more than 800 interviewers and 6 Regional Offices (Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia) that support more than 9000 Field Representatives.

The Census Bureau conducts hundreds of surveys and survey related operations.  Demographic surveys such as:  The American Community Survey, American Housing Survey, Current Population Survey, National Survey of College Graduates, Survey of Income and Program Participation, Telephone Point of Purchase, etc.   Economic sectors covered include Construction, Governments, Foreign Trade, Manufacturing, Mining, Retail, Services, Wholesale, and Multi-Sector.  Decennial surveys and operations take place between the 10 year census to plan, test methods and technology to improve data collection and processes.  We also collect data for various universities, organizations, and government agencies.

Seems as if this is a legitimate call from the Census Bureau since I did complete the survey with a worker in person who stated they would be doing follow up calls. My issue is that I work and also do not answer calls with unknown numbers, so, they proceed to call up to 8 times during my work day. I don't care if it's legit or not, that's still harassment! That far surpasses the number of calls I get from telemarketers, etc. This needs to stop!

Me either.  I got the Census forms sometime ago and filled the information out and sent it back.!I received several thank you emails but for filling out and sending it back and then I started getting calls. They always leave a message saying to call back a number, the number is always different, and often they are calling from different numbers than the first couple of numbers they called from. Since I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, they don't get an answer  when they call. I have tried calling back the number that they give and the recording said that if you received a message from them not to worry about it, that they will try calling you again. Well if that's the case, why do they keep leaving a message for me to call them? Got another call just today-actually they've called twice today.
